New Soloist on it's way!

I can't be 100% sure, but I seem to remember something about George Lynch coming up with the name Screamin' Demon before the pickup was actually designed and made. That described his desired sound. Then they started experimenting and found that the best way to get that sound was to end up with quite a low-output pickup. It's true, overwinding a humbucker gets you more mids and less treble. Screams are treble! So the name describes the sound, it just doesn't match up with people's idea that more winds = more aggression.

It's finished! And it's wonderful. Simple, lightweight, plays great.

That is a great looking soloist! I can't wait to get my soloist together and feel how it plays. I always liked the strat shape but just felt like it was a little bulky. I am hoping the soloist feels better.

I realize we talked about how silly it is to describe pickup sounds, but why did you flip it?

And I seriously can't believe they left that hole there...

I didn't flip the pickup, the tech did. He said it was bacause the pole pieces are typically towards the neck in that position, and that pickup is actually designed for the bridge position. He also told me that if it were flipped there would probably be very little difference in sound.

I've gotten used to the hole in the bridge pup position. It really doesn't bother me.

Typically, as delivered, there's no difference in sound with regards to orientation. So, if you're happy with the way it sounds now and you haven't adjusted the screws, you could flip it so the emblem is right side up and not change anything. Just be sure not to change the overall height of the pickup when you do that.

In full humbucking mode, you might want the screw side closer to the nut for the neck position, and the screw side closer to the bridge in the bridge position. That way when you run the screws in or out, you can make your neck pickup more or less mellow and the bridge position more or less bright. The differences are pretty subtle, though - heading towards inaudible except at high levels.

In single coil mode, if you use the coil with the screws in it (ground the slugged coil), you're basically just changing the individual string outputs to get the balance you want.

New Souldier strap arrived for it today. Also got a Mono Vertigo bag for it, so I'm set.
