New amp day...Merry xmas to me

Well got a disappointing email today, the guy I was buying the V50 from contacted me and said the amp has an issue. And so he refunded my money(that's good news). He could have screwed me, but he played it square and notified me of the problem with the amp. I was pretty put out, but I've decided I want to get a Blackstar HT 60... :dontknow:

Imma  try to get out to GC and play one to see how I like it...

Good news on the delivery. I've heard good things about that amp.

Incidentally, Crate is from China, Blackstar is from Korea.

Maybe as of lately Crates are made in China, but the newest one I have is from '98 and all the tags say made is St. Louis, MO. As for Blackstar I haven't a clue... :dontknow:

Yeah, it's only been since about 2005 when they were bought by Loud Technologies, Inc. (Ampeg, Alvarez Guitars, Crate Amplifiers, EAW, Knilling, Mackie, Martin Audio, SIA Software and TAPCO) that they've been made in China. Prior to that, they were made in St. Louis.

Doug my good buddy.

Blackstar's Artisan range are handbuilt in the UK, by ex Marshall employees who got disillusioned with how Marshall were operating at the time.
The Blackstar HT amp range (along with all of their pedals) are designed in the UK by the same guys, but built in Korea.  They sound fantastic, get great reviews, and are selling massively.  You wont be disappointed.

allo Jim, yip everything I've read and watched says these amps are nothing but awesomeness...I would've loved to get the Artisan, but they're just a bit out of my budget...Still I think I'll be satisfied with the HT... :icon_thumright: :icon_thumright:

I know that people consider that there is some MOJO to a hand wired amp. but the big difference is just that they use steel chassis and not PC boards. That does make them easy to mod however but a good PC board is probably a better electrical component. I really do not like Chinese made anything as I think they are a lot of what is wrong with our economy, but I really do not see a choice as hand wired amps seem to charge a 3 or 4 hundred dollar premium just to say they are hand wired and the jury is  out as to weather to the Average guy if they are a benefit. I personally cannot see the benefit to me as I do not get into my amps and rewire this or that, Give me an amp with the AC 15 or 30 tone with  a top boost and I am in heaven. I have played some of the new wave of cheaper Chinese made amps, Bugera and Jet city, I have my opinion on the tone they put out but I also have that opinion about Marshalls. I will say they seem to be well built little monsters, And I cannot see a Major amp company not being on top of their quality control as it would take just a bad shipment of amps to almost ruin a reputation. Could you imagine Mesa getting a reputation for " Avoid any amp that is dated 2009" before long, considereing the rumors high school kids spread and believe, it would be 4 or 5 years, and their uncle would confirm this and that, I know someones cousin, uncle, brothers, skank sisters sex partner turned evangelist drug addicted porn star told me so.
See how we depend on our ear, and that is what defines what is good or bad, I think we should consider that we should give it a chance because with current labor prices we are not going see a affordable amp coming from America any more.

Actually Mesa did have an issue with the Stiletto head. The first ones were garbage and were sold for half price by dealers just to deplete inventory.

Can confirm this, my skank sister's sex partner turned evangelist drug addicted porn star told me so..... :icon_jokercolor:

I bet the Mesa range has had it's fair share of dogs, you simply can't do enough R & D to establish if the product will perform reliably over the long haul. Ditto for any other major amp company too....

When I first started playing in the 1970s the Fender range had a horrible reliability reputation, and they simply could not compete with the Marshalls of that era. It has taken me literally years to look fondly at a Fender amp and I still do not want to own a Fender Twin  Reverb from the 1970s era (silverface?). So while I am making fun of the other psoter's comment, the long term prejudice of what you had been told and sometimes seen a bit of (ie: poor reliability and sound quality), can take along time to overcome even if the company turns the product around.
