A couple of weeks ago, I was clicking my way through youtube, and I heard a guy play 'i'm allright', and I liked the riff, so I looked up who played the original, and it was Neil Zaza. I knew his signature cort-guitar, really an awesome guitar by the way. Yesterday I pulled the trigger, and gave myself his album 'when gravity fails'. And man... this guy can PLAY! I dig his tone, his choice of notes, he's like what I feel Petrucci wants to be, but never could be. Who knows Neil Zaza and his music, and what do you guys think about him?

I like his tone and I like some of his songs. He's one of the few (80's) shreders I like. I can't stand most of them because I don't like their songs but Zaza has nice melodies in his songs.

if you can call that tone... pffft.

compared with someone that comes to mind, lets say, malmsteen or petrucci: yeah, thats tone.

I agree about these two but tone IS subjective so... :cool01:

I met him at one of his guitar clinics maybe 15 years ago.  Pretty cool guy who can really play.  I'll never forget I learned how to play one of those fancy showoff licks where you play one note normal, then play the next note with your hand over the top of the fretboard, rinse and repeat.

Actually it's best to show it....  This is an old video of an old band I used to be in back when I had long hair and was cool a decade or so ago.  I advise fast forwarding as it's not my best playing. :)

Watch my hands at 7:08.

Neil Zaza taught me to do that. :)
