Neck fit issue?

My Warmoth VIP's neck pocket is 1/64 in (.105) larger than my Soulmate neck.  Should I center it in the pocket or favor the larger/upper horn side (longer pocket edge) or the smaller/lower horn side (shorter pocket edge)?  Do I need to add a shim of some sort or can I apply a finish to each side of the neck to make it larger?  Any advice here?

Well first thing - 1/64 inch is not .105....... its .015 (and change).

If your neck is only .015 smaller, or thought of another way - less than an unwound G string - and you center it, you're talkin' .007ish on each side?

Stackin' rat turds if you ask me.  Just live with it.  You easily can tighten that amount up in the finishing stage

Stick a guitar pick in the crack if you even can. Doesn't the neck have mounting holes? If so, It'll mount where the holes tell it to and whatever gaps there are, will be.

Yeah, that was a typo.  At least I got the decimal point in the right spot!  :icon_jokercolor:

I can definitely live with it if this is not a big issue.  How can I tighten that up in the finishing stage?

No, no mounting holes.  I was just going to string up old E and e strings to do the alignment and dermine hole placement.  Just wondered if I need to do anything else before I drilled.

I had to sand the pocket on my new SG about the same small amount.  I would consider those  tight tolerances; not a concern.

If you're using a finish that builds depth to the material - like lacquer, or clear poly, or other finishes... just give the sides of the neck in that spot a few extra coats.

Holding a finish depth to .007 would make for zero wiggle room.  A .007 finish depth is not hard to get.
