Yeah, that V definitely sounds like a problem. I have a neck with a similar shape and it cramps my hand the same way. It's a pretty big jump from that kind of profile to a wizard, though.

I have a Wizard profiled neck on my guitar.  It's very thin.  While it feels great and is fast-moving, sometimes it's nice to play a thicker neck with a little bit of meat behind it.  While I absolutely love the neck, it doesn't feel "substantial" or "solid," I guess.  It kinda leaves you feeling like you're playing air.

That being said, I think I'd probably go for a neck with a little more meat the next time.  I really like the neck on my 2003 Jackson KV2.  Unfortunately, I can't find any specs on the measurements.  It's a somewhat narrow neck but with some meat behind it.

FWIW, I haven't experienced any discomfort playing the Wizard neck for prolonged periods.

I have the standard thin on my telecaster.  I get a little fatigue when playing it for long periods.  I'm 5'7" and my hands are pretty normal size for how tall I am.  My other guitar has a roundback profile and I find that much more comfortable for long periods of play.  Especially when playing rhythm.  If I was doing mostly lead I may lean towards the standard thin.  I personally wouldn't do a wizard, standard thin is already pretty thin.

I have stubby fingers so I figured the more of them I could get over the neck, the better, so I went with the Wizard.  I'm really not familiar with all the different profiles.  I can't just say, "Yeah, I like a Standard Thin neck," because I'm not sure I've ever played a guitar with that profile.  Someone would have to tell me, "Okay, a MIM or MIA Strat has a Standard Thin neck," or "A Les Paul has the Boat-Tail neck."

For me, my ideal neck would be one very similiar to that of my 2003 Jackson KV2.  It's beefy, plus it's fairly a bit on the narrow side.  That back on that neck seems to be very round.

I have 3 guitars with SS frets, I don't feel much difference compared with well kept nickelsilver frets. Every year I do major work on each guitar; it keeps me off the street, right? I take some polish compound and buff each fret till it shines like a diamond. (kinda). sure its labor intensive but I like work on my guitars, and imho te upcharge to stainless isn't worth it. if it were, I would have to play this specific guitar for another 15 years before the frets are worn down! the horror, the horror! these frets are too low, and I'll have them replaced with 6000 dunlops whenever I get the chance :)

I have to disagree with you Orpheo on this one.  The stainless frets don't wear as much, and I tend to wear the nickle frets in one area a lot.  The G and B string at the first fret.  To the point that there is a noticeable dimple there on several of my guitars without stainless frets.  To avoid this only costs me 20 bucks?  That is not much of an upcharge in the grand scheme of things.  I don't notice the "Glassy" feel of stainless so much, but the wear does show up for me.  And because of that, I choose to plunk down the extra money.

I like the Standard thin neck and the 59 roundback.  The V'd necks cause my hand to cramp.  For whatever reason v'd necks do that, I dunno, but it makes those two neck profiles my favorite.  I have a Contemporary Strat from the 80's that is what I learned most things on, and the Standard Thin neck is very close to that.  So it is very familiar, and sits well with me.  The 59 is like that SG I adored, thicker and rounder than the Standard Thin, but I get it with a 25.5 inch scale that my hands are more suited to.  I have played guitars with thinner necks than noted, and they just don't feel right to my hands.  To each their own.

I always soften the V on Clapton and Boatneck profile necks. If you have an exotic wood that required no finish you’re in luck if not you’re stuck with the problem unless you want to refinish the neck. Generally all it takes is around .006” sanded from the area beneath the nut to around the 7th fret. The pointed area should be sanded slightly flat and made wide enough to be comfortable for the thumb, etc. Sometimes just a few passes with 220 will make a big difference.
