My vacation to New Orleans....

Hey y'all! As some of you know, I just spent a week vacationing in New Orleans.


Saw lots of gators:

Also saw some Swamp Ash in its natural habitat:

Visited some plantations:

Spent Halloween on Bourbon Street (that's Mrs. Double A in the pink shirt):

And on the last day we visited some of NOLA's legendary cemeteries. These ornate, opulent above-ground mausoleums are simply to die for. (Thanks, I'll be here all week.):

Was jazzed (ugghh....) to find this one, just by blind luck:

We wandered around in there for hours...it was amazing!


And then I saw this:

I promised the missus I wouldn't, but I guess I took my work on vacation with me after all....

Very cool!  It's a fun place to visit for sure!

That one was called "Laura's Plantation", but I don't know if it was used in Django Unchained or not. IMDB will know.


I also visited a legit Creole plantation, which looks pretty different from the stereotypical Hollywood-style plantation:

Pretty conflicting experience to walk through the grand house out front, and then then slave cabins in the back. Yeeesh.

It's a fun place indeed. I worked just outside the French Quarter for about six weeks in the late '90s.

We arrived two days after Hallowe'en and were told by many people there that they prefer it over Mardi Gras.
We didn't get out to any of the Bayou or plantations.  Went back some years later with my wife for a week.
Great food, drinks and music everywhere.

That's entirely possible. I had it at the Mall of America in Minneapolis/St. Paul Minnesota, a place not well-known for its alligator population. It was breaded, frozen, then deep-fried before serving with a variety of dipping sauces that could change the taste of anything to anything. I think it was on the menu (along with a few other oddball items like lion meat and robin's eggs) just so people could say "Yeah, I've eaten alligator!" :laughing7:

Oh man...we ate so much good food. My favorite meal of the whole trip was the Jam-burrito...a burrito made with jambalaya - which included alligator sausage. We had alligator on several other occasions too. I found that I also really like catfish!
