My new Velocity build

That's going to be a beautiful build.  The Velocity with a short-scale neck is really fun to sling around.  I saw that you changed from a Zebrawood neck.  It's all good, but it you decide to go that route in the future, Zebrawood makes a great neck; I have one.

Looking forward to seeing your vision complete!

You happen to have one of my favorite Velocity's out there, the blue one!

This Velocity body is small, which I really like. Being chambered, it is also very, very light. I think this is officially my new favorite guitar body style, I just love it.

Funny about the Zebrawood neck... I really want one, but Warmoth refuses to build me one. I talked to them about it, and he ran it by the guys in the shop, and they came back and said no, they wouldn't build one.

Very disappointing, huh? I would have killed for a Warmoth Zebrawood neck, even if I had to pay out the wazzoo!

If they're refusing to build one, it's not that they don't want to, it's because they don't have a suitable chunk of wood in stock. Better they say no than to fill the order with any old piece for just revenue's sake and have you less than pleased with the result.

That's unfortunate.  But, the exotic options are a  lot fewer than they used to be.  Zebrawood used to be a standard neck option, at least with the Warmoth headstock necks.  I got mine about 8 or 9 years ago.

Makes sense! They didn't give me a specific reason, but I am sure that's it. I've seen Zebrawood necks before, so it's not like it's something that can't be done. Maybe I'll try again in a few months.

If you spec out fantasy parts in The Builder from time to time you'll see different wood species come and go. Even what you might think of as staples like Pau Ferro turn up missing from the list of choices sometimes, like right now. A couple/few weeks ago there was no Bloodwood, now there is.

It might not even mean they don't have it, just that it's not ready. The stuff has to be seasoned, and that takes time. There's no Pau Ferro in the builder, but I'd bet dollars to donut holes there's a pallet load of the stuff stickered in one of the kilns. Same with the Zebra wood. Eventually the Warmoth Wood Gnome will pull a piece and give it a taste, and pronounce it fit for production. Then we can all abuse our credit cards in the manner to which they've become accustomed  :laughing7:

I noticed that. There definitely aren't as many exotic wood options in the builder as there was once upon a time!

And I'm going to keep pestering them until they get a suitable piece of Zebrawood in stock for the neck. But for now, the neck I built will do just fine!

Here's the work I accomplished today. The wiring is 100% done. At this point I am just waiting on the neck, two amber roller knobs, and a cream switch tip.

Once I have all that, it will be complete!

I changed the neck order for this one.

It's now a 100% Wenge neck with an ivory binding and a zebrawood headstock veneer that is painted honey burst, to match the body.

It's a boatneck profile too. It's going to take a few months, so I'll have to be patient while I wait.

The neck arrived today!
