My first Roasted Ash body and Bocote Neck

World weather getting crazy, 2 windstorm in USA , and we have typhoon nearly every weeks here , put my daytime project in delete and it near the deadline now , so not time to made much progress in the factory , only done some hand selecting area sanding . And some bad luck, as too many typhoon , air get hight humidity , when there are sun I put the the body outdoor under the sun , but a suddenly rain made it even more wet  :help: so I need to buy a drying cabinet to dry it now .

Sorry to hear you got caught out in the rain like that. I wouldn't worry too much though, that body's a nice big piece of very dry wood. Aside from perhaps a little raised grain, it's unlikely to be damaged by a quick sprinkle.

BTW: I absolutely love that pickguard! Can't wait to see the finished product.  :icon_thumright:

I like the heel modification (and of course the pickguard and photography for it). I wonder whether it affects the strength. Will you be using regular neck screws shortened or machine screws/neck inserts?

thanks , as don't have time to work on it now ( nearly working 18 hours a day for daytime project :tard: ) put it in the  drying cabinet got some effect , it's  humidity going down from 84% to 59% now .

Cool, thanks for the info. I'm hoping to do some sort of contour on mine yet, but not sure what type i.e. Fender contour plate etc. I'm wondering what the minimum thickness for ash would be for this sort of thing because Warmoth Modern neck construction isn't compatible with the Fender contour and what I want is only available in Modern now.
How thick is yours at the smallest part?
Will you just be chopping/grinding the screws or trying to keep them pointy?
That's a big drill bit for the countersink :)

the minimum thickness on this ash body I have done ( I thinks other wood can be same ) most shorter low hole is 12mm , upper one is 16mm , other inner 2 is not much different from original.

I use this kind of countersink , the D1 size I use is 12mm .

it need flat head drill bit, actually I using 12.7mm milling router bit on a digital reading milling machine in the factory  , much easy for this job.

for the screws just going chopping it short and grinding the end with a bevels edge should be ok.

as this Warmoth page , http://www.warmoth.com/Guitar/Necks/faq2.aspx

screw keep it 14~15mm into the neck wood should be OK .

That's pretty damn cool, the engraving is just awesome....And the silver grain fill is a nice touch... :icon_thumright:

Do you mind me asking where those 12mm ferrules come from? Looking around on ebay my search results seem to come up with 2 sellers that do nickel/gold/black options - 1 in UK and 1 in Spain with postage to me basically double the item price. Retail sites appear to offer 14/15mm items. Maybe I've been searching for the wrong thing. 12 or 13mm would probably suit my goals.

I buy it from a China "amazon" like site, you may try to find on alibaba.com which for oversea outside China, but postage may be much more from the UK .

BTW ,  I got a foot injury with twisted crack bones and dislocated bone joints. so not any more progress before I recovered.

some talks about it here :
http://www.unofficialwarmoth.com/index.php?topic=28636.msg406268

it a typhoon session, a canvas top can't hole it fall, knocked down a heavy ladder fall on my feet that crack bones, and  canvas knocked me down too, that made a second  twisted

Thanks for that - I had looked on aliexpress.com but I was looking for 12mm ferrules. Now I looked for countersunk washers (I saw them called that somewhere) and after clicking on some ads I found https://www.aliexpress.com/item/100pcs-M5-5mm-aluminum-colourful-countersunk-head-washer/32743820639.html which has the diagram you posted plus the various measurements. Now I know the ones with the ~12mm outer diameter are M5 countersunk washers for 5mm screws! I won't be ordering 100 but at least I know what to shop for now assuming aluminium is good for the purpose :) You can also get M4 for 4mm screws but the outer diameter is ~10mm.

P.S. Good luck for your recovery. Your health is the more important than deadlines.

Bum deal, Hendrix. Good thing it wasn't worse than it was. Hopefully it'll heal quickly. Take it a little easier until it does.

Damn son, that sounds painful! Hope you heal up nice and quick, feel better soon.  :icon_thumright:

After my feet getting better, I can go for a long trip back to the factory to meet a client .
After meeting, I got some time to finish the painting on the body , not much time to make it ideal.
It comes out a kind of rusted old wood look I work for.

I find the alumni pickguard look too "new " and sunny for the body, so it under aging now.
