My "Black Cat Strat"

The Details:

Warmoth AAA Flame Maple Neck

Vintage Modern
1 5/8"  Nut
Fatback Contour
SS6100 (Stainless) frets
Tuner ream (13/32")
10-16" Compound Radius
GraphTech Black TUSQ XL Nut
GraphTech String Tree
Vintage Tint Gloss finish by Warmoth
Gotoh Antiqued Delta series locking Tuners 21:1 gear ratio

Warmoth One Piece 3lb 7oz Alder Body

Black Gloss finish by Warmoth
Custom made 1/8 thick Black Acrylic pickguard
Callaham Vintage Model Bridge and hardware
Callaham H/SRV pickups and electronics

I aged the guitar parts to look good and be comfortable, rounding the knobs and plastics and sanding off the Gloss on the neck and rolling the edges,
as well as aging the hardware to match the antiqued tuners. It feels like I have owned it for years.

The Fender Gilmour Guitar goes for 4-5 Grand, I wouldnt trade this one for a Gilmour and I paid less than half that.

Did I mention how fricken awesome this guitar sounds ...... It sounds awesome!!!

Thank you Warmoth  :icon_thumright:

Oooh, smooth! Very Gilmourish, with some personal touches. I like the bridge pickup angle! But no vibrato arm?

Man that's a nice build.  The gloss is fantastic.  I'd say this fits in the category of "...none more black."  :icon_biggrin:

Don't usually like black guitars. This one is an exception! Somehow, it looks both classy and killer!  :guitarplayer2:

Thanks, I wanted this to be a plain but tough looking guitar that would look cool playing metal, rock or blues yet still be a traditional strat, the devil is in the details.  :laughing7:

Beautiful - what did you polish that with?  I'd like to get that kind of shine on my truck!

I guess you could give Warmoth a call and see if they would run your truck through their paint dept.  :laughing7:

The pickups sound Great!!!.... they're Callaham's, Hendrix/Stevie Ray Vaughan Specials .....(cryogenically treated Lindy Fralin Special winds)...as expected the bridge is a bit darker in the high notes than if it were slanted traditional strat style.
I wouldn't change a thing.  :icon_thumright:

Siiick Strat!

The reflections on the body are kinda disturbing in the pictures though

yeah I know,  I just laid it outside and took some quick pics, it seemed impossible to not get a reflection so I just went with it, thats one thing about Gloss Black its like a mirror, Im gonna try again in a different setting one of these days and switch some or all of these out.

Man that guitar looks like candy. I would be afraid to play it the finish is so perfect. Great concept and execution!

I'm not typically a fan of black on a guitar but this makes me think better about it. I'm glad you didn't put gold hardware on it. If I had a black guitar I would make it just like this one.

Thank you, yes I have come to the conclusion everytime I build a guitar Im going to make it much different than the last one, this one too me, is even cooler than my first one, I cant wait to do the next one, though it may be a while it will be cool.....I have seen some awesome looking Barenuckle pickups, that give me all sorts of radical Ideas.   I realise this wasn't much of a stretch being that its very much like Gilmour's guitar, but it also isnt in many ways....the tone and action is amazing, Warmoth continues to impress me to no end, I can honestly say I will probably never own anything but a Warmoth guitar, I love em. :)

Thanks guys, I have been tweaking the action and pole settings for a few weeks and the guitar plays and sounds great, very tonefull and musical, my leads sing and my chords are very detailed and crunchy and all with a traditional style nut, I am very pleased with the Graph Tech Black Tusq XL nut, I was concerned it may color the tone in a way I found distracting, but I really like it, and my guitar strings stay in tune extremely well, I am also happy and thankfull to have spent the extra money on expensive high quality tuners and encourage anyone interested in improving the tone and playability of their guitar to do the same.

I have no doubt Warmoths excellent fret work and the compound radius fret board plays a huge role as well, Im used to having fairly high action, but because the stainless fret work is so accurate I have been playing around with different setups and much lower action, and am impressed at how low I can set this thing up and still not fret out anywhere on the board, no fret level was needed.  :icon_thumright:

Wow, I want to go swimming in that thing. Very sexy! I would have been afraid to put a single ply black guard on a black body, but that really looks amazing.
