Mr Doot: A Soloist

Here are the burnt chrome juggernauts in my ibby. Very organic despite the immense power under the hood. Bridge has nicest cleans of any bridge bucker I’ve ever played

Nerve racking and done free hand. Turned out great.
Look'n good there, Frank. I was looking to do that on my new build, but had never seen anyone do it. Glad to see some intrepid soul take it on and show me it can be done!  :icon_thumright:

You can always mask off if you are going to do shielding paint and don't want to exercise those nerves of steel. A bit of shop towel and masking tape like this...

Ha!  I was referring to the threaded inserts :).  On a side note, I think I need to move my pics over to Flikr.  Imgur is so temperamental.

LOL, I thought you were talking about routing. I did some freehand routing myself yesterday and was quite impressed. :laughing11:

Nice installation on those inserts. Impressive in their own right. How thick was the wood you had to drill into?

I dreamt of a mounting plate idea only to learn one existed. Since I don’t have all my tools at the moment I pulled the trigger.  Really clever. Expensive and easy to fab yourself if you have some taps.

Center section accepts one of four height adjustable bolts, which adjust elevation of the pickup and provide center support.  Flanking it on either side are the mounting holes for the bracket itself.  I won’t be using it because I prefer not having to remove the pickup to adjust height.  The end holes are for the humbucker height adjustment screws.

Cutting it close height wise. May have to lose the bracket. We shall see.

My similar, "home made" solution for my DiMarzio P90's in my 7/8 strat with a universal pickup route (FYI: you can't mount DiMarzio's in a universal strat route, without some mods)

Solid. That’s a gorgeous guitar!

Edit: Those pickups sound SO nice.  Damnit, I might have to consider a platform for them now.

Reading this reminds me that I need still another project after the next one.

Alrighty.

Got the neck installed and she's fully up and running.  This is the first Warmoth neck I was able to setup without a fret level, so that's great.  As it turns out, I prefer maple on this one and not a fan of the warhead in person.  1st world problems, I know.  I'm going to swap necks for the one on my Floyded Strat.  Nice 1-piece maple doo-dad.

Some notes:

1. The Schaller Lockmeister is awesome.  I prefer it's more compact look and clean lines to that of the Gotoh on my Strat.  I will be swapping out the trem arm holder for a Floyd press in model with the set screw.  The locking collar setup makes the mar feel too tight or clunky.

2. The Floyd Upgrade's Humbucker mount is spectacular.

3. The HxS Dimarzio switching scheme is TREMENDOUS.  I'll post it up soon, as it's customized for the Area in the neck.  Every position is toneful and useful.

4. The Dimarzio Transition bridge pickup is a hugely organic flamethrower that has loads of clarity and sounds phenomenal split. Bonus points for remaining dynamic and playing well with the volume pot.  Review coming shortly.
