More Watches

I've own many watches in my life. From cheap to very expensive. Never once was it for social status, bragging rights or to make me feel special. Most people today don't even know what a mechanical watch is any more, and other than Rolex, they don't know the names of any brands. I just appreciate the mechanical precision it takes to produce a mechanical watch that can actually tell time. Plus, other than a wedding ring, it's the only piece of jewelry I would ever want to wear.

I don't consider the watches I wear now to be jewelry (maybe one dress watch, but it's stainless steel and doesn't really call attention to itself). But I used to have a couple of vintage pieces that were jewelry; strictly dress watches for special occasions, like this 18carat Jurgensen. I miss that watch, although I never had much occasion to wear it.

Hey MrPinter!
What do you think of this thing? I'm wondering if it's real or a knock off...

UPDATE! took it to my watch guy to have the bracelet re-sized. She just rolled her eyes and laughed ;)

I don't know how you came to own it or how much you paid for it, but if it's real you probably got the deal of a century, Here is a Datejust that's similar, except it isn't all gold, that's selling on eBay for $25,000.

If your watch repair person had that reaction she probably identified it as a fake. The counterfeiters are getting to be pretty good at what they do. I see some minor differences - like the position of the words SWISS MADE (above the minute track on yours, not on the track like the real one) And the minute track itself is different. I might be wrong, but I am inclined to believe her assessment was correct. would you consider her to be an expert with experience working on Rolexes?

Oh on close inspection the watch is so fake it's funny. We're calling it "the fauxolex" :)
