I only know his name and the fact that my younger female relatives swoon at the mention of his name. But.. I'm a big fan of maple boards, but the ebony sets up the contrast this one needs without competing with the body for attention. Otherwise it's just a weaker version of the body, palettewise.

I'd do the Ebony. As Swartfrat says, it's a nice contrast without creating competition. The Maple gives the whole thing a somewhat anemic look.

Closer to completion, the neck choice is proving to be more difficult than I thought...ebony is elegant & classy, makes the painted border POP...the maple is 'less serious' and gives the guitar an overall 'lighter' feel, and I'm so far unable to decide which I like better....nice problem to have, though!

I like the maple best.

HOLY CRAP!! Clearly, that's a project I've GOT TO take on--not with this one, but it WILL be done! Killer idea!!
BTW; I put the maple on, 'lived with it' for a couple of days, and it just did less & less for me every time I looked at it, so it looks as though the ebony gets the call...I really wanted the maple to work out, but it just was kinda...blah...so, there y'go...completed pics soon.
(Doug--Dave never did anything to me...unfortunately he never did anything FOR me, either.
And I can't say why, but he's just always come across as a WEENIE to me!?!).
