Went to a Jazz club in Tokyo some years ago and the guy was using this. Actually very well made and highly playable. Too bad my trip was short or else I would get one.

There's an outfit called Traveler Guitars that makes a Travelcaster model that looks like the one your jazzbo in the photo is playing, but with a 3x3 headstock.  Available on Reverb, Guitar Center, and elsewhere.  And it looks like someone on eBay is selling unfinished bodies as well, if you feel like going that route.
