Check out the new "Picture It" visualizer tool in the Warmoth Showcase! It's currently available on Strat®, Tele®, P Bass®, and J Bass® replacement bodies.

See it in action here: https://goo.gl/cNIjJl

This tool is currently in a trial/ evaluation period, so check it out and tell me what you think. Keep or a sweep?

WOW! That is absolutely amazing. So much easier seeing an approximation of what the finished guitar will look like. I hope this will be a keeper. I really really like it.
And of course it would be great to have it on more models ... :icon_thumright:

It gets my vote. Or Like.

Our biggest concern: is it clear enough that the Visualizer is for "entertainment" purposes only, and doesn't necessarily reflect the actual options available on a particular body?

I think it's clear enough, but I understand your concerns ... There are always those that might misunderstand things.
But, still, I think you guys are pretty clear with the information on the Visualizer. "Want to see how this body could look with assembly options?" (Emphasis mine).
Pretty clear to me.

It appears you cannot select a finish.

I think that's probably rather more difficult.  Solid colors would be easier.  Trans, dyes and burst would be a nightmare.

Dude...you have NO idea. :)

Once we finally move to the new site, those will no longer be a part of the builder, ever.

Coming from my lawyer background, the clearer you can make the disclaimer, the better.  Most folks will get it, but unless you explicitly communicate something like 'Picture It images are for experimentation only", or something equally unequivocal.  If you could enable a link to the item being experimented with or even create an autopopulated shopping cart, that'd be pretty awesome (and convey the "you only get the parts of this image that you pay for" idea by other means).

Separately, note that if I select "none" for the pickguard options, I get the default white mother-of-toilet-seat, rather than the unadorned body.

New site?  Wat's that?

I remember some folks getting bent out of shape because the grain pattern on the paint page examples didn't match what they ordered...

It's a LOOONG way off yet, but well underway.

It's an unimaginably big project, by far the biggest and most complex I have ever worked on. I show up at work and do it every day. Then, when I get home at night, I crawl into bed and cry until my heart attacks put me to sleep.

Then I get up and do it again...and work progresses.

As a full time dev, I totally understand, but jeez you're probably doing it mostly by yourself and that is quite the undertaking.

Now, this is fun. Leave it up. Make the disclaimer more obvious at the top so the brain dead intellectually challenged ones don't get too confused.

I think it's a wonderful thing. But, there does seem to be some hardship involved due to the fact that you're dealing with pictures of real parts that won't modify themselves to suit different situations like artificial graphic depictions can.

For instance, if a body is already routed for humbuckers, trying to picture it with single coils makes a mess as you can't "unroute" the body. Same with bridge options. If it's already routed for a Wilkinson and you wanna see what a 2Tek looks like, you see the artifacts of the actual route. There probably needs to be some logic that will prevent choices that can't physically be made. It's not a "builder" so much as a "dressing room". You're not starting from scratch, you're working with a body that already exists. Problem there is now you're adding work to the listing. Somebody's gotta enter what modifications are possible for each part listed. But, there's a certain amount of that being done already, so maybe that's not a problem.
