Meanwhile, at Warmoth....new hold music!

I got to spend a couple days last week recording some hold music for our new phone system. I tried to come up with something that wasn't too cliche...no bluesy noodling, no shredder-dude wanking. It gets a little "Joe Satriani" in the middle, but that's OK, I guess. It was fun. Now, anytime you call in and have to wait on hold you will hear this:

You know,  that's the cool thing about working for a small company - you can actually do things like that and no corporate weenie will try to stop you  :headbang:

Speaking of Father Ted, there was a really good piece in The Guardian yesterday about the show on the 20th anniversary of its premiere.  I had not realized Dermot Morgan (the actor who played Father Ted) had died the day after the final episode's wrap.  Sad.

Also - I dig the hold music.

Also - presumably you recorded the hold music using Warmoth guitar bits.  Photos?  We're such photo-whores around here.

That's really cool!

Thanks for the kind words. It was a blast to write and record.

Yes...all the guitars I used for the hold message featured Warmoth parts. The wah sections were played on an S-type axe with Duncan Custom Custom in the bridge. All mid-range, all the time. The main tones in the beginning and end were with a Nomad neck, and a...umm....prototype body with a Dimarzio AT-1 in the bridge. :headbang1:

All the harmonies were tracked separately. I hate harmonizer pedals. The first section is basically 1 guitar, bass, and drums. Once the you hit the middle section where the production opens up, all the various guitars were tracked individually.

For amps I mic'ed up my Marshall SL-5, which to me is the best practice/recording amp ever invented. I also used a Zoom G3. The wah was a Budda wah...one of the original ones in the purple Dunlop enclosure. For bass I used a SansAmp Tech21 SVT pedal, which always delivers excellent bass tones. Everything was recorded and mixed in Reaper.

Sorry I didn't take photos. I am very much a non-picture-taking type of guy. I prefer to let myself become caught up in the moment, rather than pausing every 5 minutes to document everything. My wife hates going on vacation with me (not really). I'll try to remember from now on that UW wants photographic proof of everything. :icon_thumright:

I listened to this yesterday, I can see someone ringing up and asking to be put back on hold to hear it.

Good job.

Nice piece of work. Definitely not what you'll hear when you call... any other company on the planet.

Can you post a picture of yourself trying to remember, please?  :icon_jokercolor:
