LPS GOTM refinish

I got the afra neck on.  The shorter scale really changes the dynamic of the guitar.  I am very happy with how it turned out..  Neck is super smooth and I think the headstock goes well with the LPS body

It's because the EXIF data your iphone stored with the image doesn't apply when it's displayed as part of a webpage.

I have been playing this for a few weeks.  I cannot believe the difference of the shorter scale.  The guitar feels so compact.

I realize the thread is slightly stale, but hey, the guitar's in the upper right corner, so it's technically not a necropost, right?

Anyway:

Care to give any detail as to your approach to the masked binding?

Thanks

It was in the upper right hand corner but now it is gone?    :dontknow:

Really is is not hard.  I have done it with both wipe on stain and tinted lacquer.  I like to use the spray because it eliminates bleed.

It is simple, after I gain filled and sealed the unfinished top, I used masking tape to cover the faux binding.  I aligned the tape to where the maple touches the core wood, in this case black koruna, and then trimmed the top with a razor blade.  You can then add color.

If you use wipe on color, you run the risk of it bleeding under the tape and may have to do some sanding even if you sealed it.  I like to mix in in the lacquer and spray.  It is easier and leaves a cleaner line.

I then will top coat clear.  I then sand a bit with some 600 grit.  This will help level the ridge created if the color is sprayed on.  this is not needed if you wipe on the color.

I will then apply the final top coat.

I hope that was helpful
