I have on order a angled strat maple/maple with abalone dots, I would like to scallope from twelve down. I have done this in the past with great results, I use files and sand paper only ( no power) and go real slow. now for the questions
how deep are the abalone markers ie. depth

also i have never finished a maple board, go figger with all the necks i have finished.. how does one remove the niro from the frets after the finish has cured?

thanks in advance
Bob..

Abalone is usually pretty thin (0.050") but I haven't removed any from a W neck yet.

Removing finish from frets is pretty easy, it doesn't stick to the metal real well.  You can either play it off or steel wool it off.

The abalone is not thick enough to do a scallop to and since they are made from real shell they will flake and chip out easily by attempting it.
