That purpleheart is still my favorite.

I like that guitar, but I like all my guitars just the same :) I play the walnut and koa II more than the others, but thats, I suppose, only natural. They really, really sound awesome, all in their own right.

Yeah, that oiled purpleheart is in a league of its own...! But the new ones are really cool too. That homemade cover looks just fine :)

But Orpheo, when do you play all these guitars? Are you in a band, do you have any recording projects etc? Just curious!

No.... I don't play in a band right now, couldn't imagine having the time :D I just collect and play for fun at home, nothing more, nothing less. I'm addicted to nice woods, thats why I have them.

@ wana's: It will stop.

some day! :D

The motherbuckers are crap in this guitar, and I loath the prails aswell...

so....

They're gutted! I really tore out all the wiring. the holes will be plugged as much as needed (if needed at all?), and I'll buy myself some new pickups.

The walnut will get something SCREAMIN, and the koa will get a raunchy, dirty, screaming, punchy set, and both should be versatile enough to get around from zz top to Mr.Big and from Iron Maiden to Brian Setzer.

The looks wont change, though :D

Cheers!

too bad bout the motherbuckers... you ever gonna try the six strat sized humbuckers you were talking about way back when?

that plan will not be executed. The 3 motherbuckers were in fact 6 stratsize singlecoils, and it just does not work. So why bother try it again? I'll just use regular humbuckers.

Have you looked into Bareknuckle Pickups?
I was noodling away on my A5 Warpigs last night (back with standard tuning after flirting with tuning down on thicker strings) and they might just take over as my fave pickups. They have a bit of a reputation as bassy monsters but respond really well to a bit of tone tweaking on my fx box thingy. I like a lot of mids on the neck pickup and these sounded mega.
But then again I like the PRails in my hollow body that don't work for your LP.

I tried BKP's, and I don't like the warpig :) its too mushy, too fat for a les paul. The prails didn't work for the guitar I had them in, in fact, they didn't work in all guitars I put them in. the series tone was a total compromise, I realise that now. the tone was too middy, not tight enough, highs weren't piercing enough, etc etc. Not my cup 'o tea.

I finally bought a set of which I think will work great with my walnut/walnut guitar:

JB/Jazz set  :evil4:

The JB has enough highs and lows to cut and punch through, and lacks so much mids that it wont become nasal or something like that, but has enough mids to drive the amp. The Jazz: same deal.

For the koa/walnut les paul I have a Suhr Doug Aldrich set in mind, which, ofcourse have been bought aswell. A nice deal on ebay. The suhr set was 130 euro's, the JB/Jazz was 120, and I bought a second set of the jazz/jb for 110 euro's, in case the Suhr's don't sound that good in the koa/walnut les paul. The Suhr's will go in another guitar, I've got plenty guitars left :D

Which model Kahlers, btw? And did u have to do the route for them,or did warmoth? Been kicking around ideas for an LP style build, and was considering a Kahler...

hybrid studmount, I believe its got the '7200' code. I routed it myself. I took a drill, measured on the bit how deep I wanted to go, drilled a 'swiss cheese' pattern in the top, and with a dremel, I made the hole a bit more clean. Worked kinda good, I have to say.

PS: Just a few more days, and I'll have my Suhr Aldrich set and a JB/Jazz set in my guitars! :D really can't wait....
