Left-Handed Stompboxes

Ok, I realize most of you will think this is ridiculous, but I was just wondering if anyone's though about reversing the orientation of the in/out jacks on stompboxes.  It's really annoying to have the cord coming out the wrong side for a lefty (for me, anyway).  Any thoughts?  I'm prepared to be told to quit whining.

Quit whining!  Just get a longer cord.  :laughing7:

Oh, gimme a break, when will it end????  when you lefty's have your own reserved parking spots up front "Parking for Lefty's Only"?  or employment quotas for Lefty's??  Lefty Awareness month?? Next your gonna try and tell us that lefty's are people too??  Go back to Canada, Lefty!!  :icon_jokercolor:
haha I jus' keeding.

I thought it was pretty nice of us to stop burning them at the stake.

Back in Canada, I hold my hockey stick left-handed. But for whatever reason, this never translated to guitar. Go figure. Sucks about the cables, don't trip! (or else break out the soldering gun)  or maybe a little breakout box on the far left of your pedalboard?

Good idea... just you need is two jacks on either side of a small small box.  Attach it to the left side of your pedalboard and run a cable across to the rightmost pedal.  Voila!

Depending on the type of boxes you've ot, it might be possible. If the jacks are not hard-wired to the circuit board, it's as simple as loosening some nuts and turning things around (in theory, anyway).
I've got a pedal on my board that I built in this way so as to be in a pivot position to keep my cables runs shorter when transitioning from top row to bottom row in the chain.

You gotta choose your battles more wisely Mr Real Nice.... Coming from a fellow lefty, I can see your point tho.  I mean, it would make more sense if you could chain your effects from left to right instead of right to left.  For me it's just a minor inconnvenience.  I just learned how to play guitar right handed instead of re-stringing axes upside down or spending more money on the same guitar that was oriented for a left handed person.  It made more sense to me to use my strong hand (left) to push the strings down.

this is exactly how I feel - - I consider my left hand to be my "good' hand - so better to have it on the strings. I feel fretting is more complex than picking in most cases.

That's actually a really sick idea.  If I had an actual board, I would do it. I just have 3 pedals right now (tuner, TS, and EQ) but I'm pretty sure I'm going to get something like a Vox Tonelab or Pod X3 after I finish my guitar anyway, so this whole problem will be moot.

Personally I find the right-to-left chaining very counterintuitive.  Of course it makes sense for righties but every time I look at a pedalboard, I start "reading" backwards: left-to-right, amp to guitar.

You DON'T need "left handed" stomp, if you have a screwdriver and a pair of pliers, open the stompbox, loosen the nuts holding the jacks in place and just switch the input/output jacks.

Yeah, I thought about doing that.  I've been gigging and rehearsing too much recently to take the time to check it out.  I wasn't sure if they were soldered to a board or what, but even if they were, it shouldn't be hard to just unsolder them, add some wire, and flip 'em.  Thanks for the input.  Input.  Ha.  Get it?  :laughing3:

Now that's a hell of an idea.

Depends on the boxes design, I've been inside a few that I don't think any soldering would even be necessary, just flip the jacks.

It'd be difficult on a TS or Boss.  Plus anyone else who uses the pedal is going to hook it up backwards... probably won't damage anything but on certain pedals you may have to deal with a nails-on-chalkboard sound.

I've given this a lot of thought.  I just don't see the necessity.  Pedals are not a bi-pedal concept.

I wasn't suggesting that someone actually manufacture them.

Also, you are definitely right-handed.    :laughing11:

Well, I am a surgeon.  I am definitely right-handed, but I am ambidextrous in surgery.  That said, there is no way I could try to play guitar left-handed.
