Koa Tele Build

What an incredible change - looks great!  I scanned the thread for this info and didn't see it, so apologies if it's a retread, but was there a reason you didn't rebuild the area between the neck pickup and neck pocket?

No you didn't miss it, I don't think I've mentioned it yet because up until recently I was still thinking I might fix it.  What led to me deciding not to was a conversation I had with the luthier who works on all my guitars.  He said that it wouldn't be much of an issue structurally, and that whatever negative impact it did have could be easily compensated for by shimming the sides of the neck pocket to make a tight fit with the neck.

Wow!  That is some fine work there, dude.  Will the neck you put on it earlier be the same one you use for the final?  You can definitely be proud of yourself on this project.  Can't wait to see the finished item!

Thank you sir.  Actually, the neck I'll be using is a Warmoth.  The one i used to mock-up the guitar before is just an old one I had lying around.

Jalane, you have polished a turd.  No small feat.

:icon_biggrin:

Yeah that's some nice work considering the 'ugly' you started with.

Polished turd ...  :laughing7:

You guys are talking about the man's guitar here, you know. Calling it a "polished" turd is still calling it a turd. He did a fine job resurrecting the thing - better than many of us could do - seems like a little respect would be in order.

Hey, We all show respect our own ways.

he took a hideous pile he knew was a hideous pile and made it gorgeous.

the point is he knew he was starting with a turd.

And now its a Golden Turd. thats as good a guitar as he chooses to make it.

Building or rebuilding a guitar to "vintage" specs is the very definition of "turd polishing". Still, you don't tell a guy his guitar's a turd. That's an arrow to the heart. May as well tell him he's ugly and his mother dresses him funny, or look at his wife and say "Yikes!" <grin>

Wasn't my idea, but I think his guitar looks awesome...

It was in good fun and no disrespect intended.  He got that.  You didn't.
