Time for a break from my no Warmoth content thread as it's just too hectic over there.
This one should be fairly quick for a change (a lot of it's already been done over the last few days) and will use a Warmoth neck.
I was intending to make the first showing of this one a video - showing the finished product first before revealing the horrible underlying truth. Hopefully I'll still do the video, but thought I'd share the actual in-progress stupidity with my Warmoth brethren.
Two ideas here - the bad idea and the other idea. I'll get the bad idea out in the open first.
Lumber selection:
Yes, that's not just stuff for templates, that's £4.00 ($5.15 US) worth of prime MDF.
It'd be about 6 lbs solid (and the other idea requires a hollow element), so scientifically-calculated tone chambers were drawn out:
And cut out:
My OCD hurts from leaving the chambers rough-cut straight from the jigsaw, but hefty doses of 'that'll do' have been and will continue to be employed during this build.
Cable channels routed, plus my one concession to possible material issues - I don't trust the MDF to hold screws very well, so a small block of tone-plywood will be hidden under the bridge:
Inner sandwich glued:
Plywood block cut and router template made:
Block glued in:
Speaking of sandwiches, and in case any of you think I've lost my mind, blame this guy:
This is Normal John Quunt; he was my near-constant companion throughout a small part of Easter Monday. 'Make a guitar body from MDF', he'd repeatedly say in his soft, doughy voice. 'Go on, it'll really annoy people.' This went on for almost several minutes, until I relented to my partner's demands and sliced his face off and toasted it.
Next up, more MDF-based fun and the other idea revealed.
