It was (sniff) s-so b-b-beautiful

I found myself near this place today, and having heard some nice things about their selection, took a look.  I went to their warehouse, and grabbed a price list, hoping to find a nice chunk of western maple.  Then I saw their Exotic hardwoods listing, and was directed to that aisle...

It was a wonderland.

Folks, the stock of wood they had their was *A*M*A*Z*I*N*G*.  I saw a 2x6x48" plank of zebrawood that had absolutely dizzying grain patterns, a small mountain of sapele, boundless bunbinga, and enough padouk planks to build one heck of a dining room set.  There were plenty of wide pieces, too - more than enough to build a 1 piece body.  Let me put it this way: they had as many racks & piles of exotic hardwood as the average Home Depot or Lowes has of treated wood planks.

After seeing the selection, 90% decided on cutting my own body of bubinga or purpleheart, or maybe even wenge.  Going back later with a camera & a measuring tape...

Do it !

You are lucky , all my wood vendors are out there , there's nothing like a walk through exotic woods.

We had one locally but it closed.. .I'm officially envious.

Wood stores are crazy exciting, I am about 45 minutes away from this one,

And it is verrryyyy dangerous whenever I go there. I have to always go with someone who will keep a tight grip on my wallet  :laughing7:

Unfortunately I am only going to be 45 minutes away from it until May  :(

We have a place like that here in So Cal called Austin Hardwoods.  They have an amazing exotics section.  I had the same reaction you did when I discovered it.  It was a bit like going to Willy Wonka's factory.

I went back Saturday - didn't take a camera, dangit - but after a much longer perusing, I've fallen in love with purpleheart.  There's a lovely stack of it, with some incredible grain patterns, and lots of different sizes.  Waiting to hear back on a promotion (:toothy12:), at which time I'll either buy a nice slab to start gluing & prepping for a body, order a purpleheart/purpleheart bass neck, or both.

Karmic retribution being meted out upon obnoxious pre-teens?  :icon_jokercolor:

Be prepared: purpleheart bodies are VERY heavy.  I hope you're planning to make a chambered body... :guitarplayer2:
