Just an idea, I don't know if anyone will like it, but here it goes.  How bout instead of a raffle, we have a design contest.  Everyone pays an entry fee, then we design guitars in kisekae or Photoshop and post our designs.  Then we vote for our top 3 favorites (that way it won't turn out everyone just votes for themselves), and then the top 5 or 10 or whatever get voted on in the final round.  Whoever wins the vote gets the cash to build the axe.  What say you?

I'm all for it. That sounds alot cooler than what we've been doing!

i know the idea of the drawing being semi anually was brought up so what if we do a traditional drawing anually and this anually but 6 months off from the other one?

Ok, so we submit our own guitar design, and then we vote on whose design is best, and that person gets to build the guitar for himself with the entry money we all put in?

That sounds like a really good idea actually.

Personally I prefer the old idea of a raffle.
This new idea would:

1) basically exclude people who aren't as computer savvy as some of us;
2) There's no guarantee that the winning design is actually doable given the budget or options that Warmoth offers.

Please, don't get me wrong. I think it's great to give this raffle idea a twist but if you'd ask me, this new plan needs some tinkering.

good point. it is just kind of a beauty contest. it's not quite as fair as the raffle since it isn't completely random. the budget thing i don't think is as much of an issue as the other problem since that could be the case in the regular raffle as well.

Absolutely not... aside from some of the aforementioned reasons, it would be all too easy to get a biased result when you involve
people voting, and this system could be easily abused.  Popularity contests belong in high school and GOM polls, not lotteries.

Just imagine doing a state lottery that way... heh.

Should keep it a random draw so everyone gets a truly fair chance, and thus keep personal bias outta the picture.

EDIT:  I can't believe some of you are falling for this scam.  You're willing to gamble $ based on a popularity contest?   :tard: :tard: :tard:

My point being: When a raffle winner get $1500,- it will give the winner enough money to make 'a' proper build, while may or may not having to cut corners from the winner's original plans but that's all fine because all the others expect nothing more than 'a' build + pictures.

If the design contest winner designs a $5000,- (I'm exaggerating a bit but bare with me) guitar then chances are that the actual build won't be just like the winning design because the winner can't cough up the remaining $3500,-, making it kind of a cheat.

Yeh sorry, No one would vote for Alfangs design, he's too rough arround the edges, Max would win everytime, even with a crayon picture drawn like a 3rd grader ( my wifes a 3rd grade teacher, I see their artwork all the time)

Anonymous posting using a third party, possibly a forum member who doesn't enter this time but is willing to recieve all the pictures and post them. That forum member would be sworn to secrecy and somehow paid for their time. (maybe paid in star level, e.g. going from regular member to hero member)

Now I feel like a total nerd. Star level?  :help: It's early.

I like it.  It's different, weird and wacky.  Differences and issues could be worked out.

What the hell - I'm in.  I need another cool bender guitar anyway

I prefer the original drawing as well. What if I design my DREAM guitar, and it gets no votes because it won't have a floyd? Not very fair IMO.

I have the exact opposite fear, actually.

No guitar of mine is ever going to have a hardtail bridge! But that's what everyone on this forum seems to like. :tard:

Better yet, what if you design your dream guitar, but it gets no votes because you're not one of members here who
gets their asses kissed everyday?   :icon_jokercolor:

Fair = zero bias.

I was thinking of doing it this way every other time so that sometimes it is random and sometimes it is this way.  The computer part of it would not have to be done by the person submitting, just the ideas involved (make checks payable to Max).

I just think it would be cool to have a competition once in a while rather than a drawing because I think it would take longer, be a hell of a lot more exciting, and less anti-climactic than the drawing.  If someone designs something that no one likes except for them, then they can enter the random drawing the next time around and get a chance to build it.

I honestly don't believe I will ever win anything that is drawn at random because I have never won anything drawn at random.  I don't have the luck for that.  But if it is a creative competition, I might not win, but at least I feel like I have a chance to win and I can give it my best shot and feel like I did something.  It would feel a lot less like just throwing money away in my opinion.

Start the designs after all the money is in so we have an idea of how much we can spend.

I don't like the idea, if someones make extraordinary guitar (DAMN YOU TONAR8353 :P) he's going to win all the years :laughing7:

anyway - I don't see why the designs couldn't be kept anonymous until the end of the voting.  We do a riff contest over at the Duncan forums and all contestants use "battle names" and except for a few rare occasions after a number of contests when people start to get familiar with the sound and style of a couple of members (I could only ever ID one person because his sound was so distinctive) - no one except the person running it knows who is who.

That's a cool idea.  It would add a whole other level of fun to the game too, trying to guess who is who.  "I wonder who designed that B-bender..."  My etched Tele would get recognized instantly, unfortunately.
