Here is my new one piece Warmoth strat body that I'm working on. Being a hardtail body at only 4lbs, it will be a great weight when it's all done.

Sanded to 320 in the last photo. I really like the 3m foam sanding block I used, perfect for this use because it contours so well.

After the first couple coats of Speedball India ink. I applied it with a foam brush fairly quickly and evenly.

This is after the first couple coats. I'll do a couple more later today, let it sit overnight, and then I'll be finishing it with Minwax wipe on poly in the next few days.

This is the lovely Roasted Maple neck I was lucky enough to find on the showcase. It's my favorite color of rosewood board. Dark, but with a rosy hue.

For those interested in what pickups/pickguard, I'm gonna be wiring a Warmoth tortoise H-x-H pickguard with a Fralin Twangmaster (black cover) in the neck, and a Van Zandt Trubucker (black) in the bridge. The battery box rout is just in case I ever wanna use Emgs, which I'm a fan of.

Ink is a great grain filler too, on a good open grain the ink goes on easy and dries reasonably quickly.
Then back sand to find the pretty.

I closed my eyes I held my nose.... I took a drink

Wanting to try this on the next body I do. Just not gonna refinish the guitar in my sig with India ink.

Well of the two inks, I would recommend Sumi-e.
It is vegetable soot, and water based, Vs. as most India ink is Iron dust or Lamp black (Petroleum soot) shellac, and / or Gelatin, and is prone to purpling or Bluing out with age as it fades.
Whereas Sumi-e goes in / on black and stays that way.
It is the reason no one respectable tattoos with india ink any more.

I'll have to stop by the store when you get it finished to check it out.
I've never played though either of those pickups and the amps at the shop are diverse enough to get a good idea of what they could do in any application.

Yea definitely Tony, it should be done this month. I'm really stoked for the Twangmaster, especially in the H-x-H configuration. I've had the Van Zandt in a Godin Redline and loved it, it's a slightly higher output PAF with handmade flair.

I loved Fralin's video demo comparison between the Twangmaster and the P-92, I could see the twangmaster as a potential retrofit for my bridge p/u on my Bari-Tele.

Yea he did a good job on that. I chose the Twangmaster because I think the alnico pole pieces are more single coil in tone. The P-92s have a brighter attack that I don't like as much, but they both seem good at their jobs.

I had to rip out the twangmaster from my strat's bridge slot (Mahog/Zebra) bc it was so bright and piercing.  The neck model is amazing, but I had to let go of the bridge.  Just an FYI.  Hopefully it won't be the case for you.

This may make it a perfect fit for a Basswood bodied baritone. :occasion14:

Yea probably offer some great clarity Tony. It's also louder than a normal coil in comparison to the same amount of winds. According to Lindy over the phone.
