No more wet-sanding lacquer for me, I have found the ultimate sandpaper I think (film actually, not paper). Mirka has a product called Microstar which is specifically designed for dry sanding clear coat. I got some of these disk for my 3" air DA and I am hooked (hooked and looped, actually). They cut fast even by hand and don't produce the "pills" that you get with normal paper. They say they have a "stearated layer" which I must assume is below the aggregate rather than a coating on top like regular stearated paper. However they do it, it works. The dust remains dust and doesn't turn into boulders on the pad. Available from 800 to 2500 grit. If it saves a water crack on a body or neck, it is worth more than the price of admission. So far, I am a big fan.

It sounds an interesting product to check out. Thanks.

I switched from water to wetsanding with naphtha or mineral spirits years ago, they don't cause the swelling that water do in unfinshed areas.. But I'm happy to look into a solution that doesn't evolve liquids.

That's it, it is available from the Amazonians but of course cheaper elsewhere. Local auto body supply probably has it.

This is the one that popped in my mind:

Youtube timestamping appears to be broken on the boards. The pic is right and the url works standalone, but it loses the timestamp as a link.
