I agree in that a true single coil sound can only be gotten from a single coil w/ 60 cycle hum. However, with today's technology, some manufacturers have come close to that sound. I have Dimarzio Area 61s, 67s & 58s in my strats & they sound pretty close. Not 100% the same, but the lack of noise more than makes up for the 10% lose in autheticity. But again, if you want THE single coil sound, go with something that picks up radio transmitters, cell phones, microwaves etc.

Have one of these (actually just the regular decimator), also I tried out one of the new Deluxe Strats and liked the new N3s a lot. I think the new Deluxe teles have them also, maybe head down to your local shop and give those a try. Like all noiseless you won't be getting full-on vintage but if you're looking for noiseless then they might be worth a try.

I voted "noiseless is for pansies," as that most closely approached my sentiments (while rather grossly overstating the case, and crudely, too).  Give our buddy at Roadhouse Pickups a ring.  He'll treat you right and customize the wind for you.  Just sayin'.

Noiseless single coils are for sissy girls.  They are also for people who prefer noiseless pickups.  I fall into neither of these categories, so i prefer noise-full pickups.  Seriously, though, Jazzmasters are the noisiest guitars on the planet, and it's not like you can ever hear any hum when you're actually playing.  I've just gotten into the habit of dropping my volume pedal in between songs, and it has never been an issue.

If you decide against the noiseless route and are looking for some splendid vintage tele tone, get yourself a set of Lollar Vintage T's.  A buddy i play with has a set and after hearing his tele i scrapped my plans for my next build and decided it would have to be a telecaster.

The fact of the matter is that here in the 21st Century, there's simply NO reason to have noisy pickups. Today's noiseless single-coils sound excellent and authentic. Why would noise ever be a preference?...

I have a set of Fender noiseless pups in one of my strats, they are an incredible pickup. Very quiet and a ton of character.

They are 4 wired, so if you wanted to split it to a true single , you can.  A fender noiseless single is actually a stacked humbucker, so you retain the single look with a humbucker advantage, yet somehow they keep the single sound.

of all the pups I have, and I have everyones pups, these sound the best in all types of sound, shred or clean. In my opinion, the best all arround pup available.

They're actually a Bill Lawrence design.

If I recall that was the SCNs that he had a hand in, did he do the original Fender noiseless? Also wasn't there some kind of issue he had with changes Fender made to his SCN design? I recall this coming up here or on another forum

I have Ares 61s, 67s & 54s in my strats & they sound pretty damn authentic. I'd say 90s as authentic as a reagular single coil but absolutely silent, less string pull & better sustain.

However, THE BEST noiseless single coils I've ever heard are the Joe Barden's. They sound like a true single coil in every way & totally silent. The only draw back is the price, but really, it's so worth it for the beautiful tone you get.

I'm getting a set of Barden Modern Nashville tele PUs for my next build for sure.

All hail Joe Barden.  :headbang:

oooh thanks for the barden recommendation. I was interested in them too, but I forgot to ask about 'em here. I knew that they were supposed to sound "really really good". I didn't know that they were supposed to sound like traditional tele pickups.

When you got 'em pleeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaase have some soundclips for me. That would make me very happy.  :hello2:  :blob7: :cool01:

WHOAH!

This is why you can't listen to what anybody says about how something sounds. Here you are smiling at the sky and wishing for that tone yourself, but if I had a guitar that sounded like that I'd get rid of it so fast there'd be a vacuum in the house for 30 seconds after it was gone.

That said, he's an incredible guitarist. I doubt he has many peers in that genre.

You think it might have something to do with that Fender Bassman having what looks like a Piezo tweeter installed along with a metal coned voice coil???  :tard:

Probably. Regardless, it does have that iconic "Telecaster" sound that puts so many off that design due to its "one-trick pony" nature. I mean, when I think of a Tele, I immediately think of that kind of tone. I can usually tell someone's playing a Tele from a mile away. It's only been in recent years that I've heard Teles get more usable range, sometimes surprising me with their utility. I saw a band not too long ago where the guitarist played a Tele, and I'd have never known it if I hadn't seen it. They were doing mostly cover tunes from blues to classical/modern rock (30 to 50 year old pub crowd), and he was able to make that guitar sound however he wanted it to, and very effectively.

I used to hate Teles, but now I'm starting to like 'em.  I used to consider them a "Country" guitar, and a twangy guitar, but I have since heard some very nice warm Rock and Blues tones come from Teles, and my attitude toward them has changed.

Typecasting teles as "country" guitars is almost as bad as typecasting LPs as jazz instruments. Yeah, works great there, but they can do so much more. When you need something with teeth, go for the Tele.

The amp & setting has a lot to do with the tele sound as well. Play it through a clean Fender with the treble all the way up & it'll sound way diffrent that if you play it through a Marshall.

Check out Harry Jacobson for awsome versatile tele tones...& incredible playing.
