A friend of mine, killer steel guitarist, has been playing a lot of Indian music and even has a steady gig lined up. I've been making "steel" guitar bars for a while out of exotic plastics, and he asked me if I could make him a flattened bar to mimic a sitar's bridge. I want to do some trial bars out of wood because the delrin is a bitch to work with - I need some maple, or padouk (?), mebbe rosewood or just something hard, at least 1.5" by 1.25" by 3.5", hopefully one long piece that'll let me get a couple of bars. I can buy "duck call blanks" on Ebay, but I'm looking for something in someone's scrap pile that's useless (to anyone but me) hence cheap - shipping plus a mystery gift? :toothy12:

If there's a Woodcraft store near you, you could check them out. They always have a limited selection of hardwoods in store, various sizes all the way up to full boards. (In fact, I bought a board of Padouk there a few years ago and my friend turned it into the neck of the guitar he built me.)

I tossed 99% of my scrap pile when I closed my shop last year ... I'll see what I kept next time I visit my storage unit

all the best,
