How not to do it

I actually think it looks kinda cool. I might buy it when I get my next salary. I don't see what all the fuzz is about.

I feel sorry for the people who built the guitar and the neck and now see it all butchered like that! I mean, a lot of Warmoth and even Mighty Mite workers would try to do their work very diligently and put in their best effort and THIS GUY does THAT to their handiwork!

The end results are bloody horrid & a waste of good wood. (Where's the vomit emoticon?  Doug?)

Actually, I already did yesterday when the thread just hit three pages or so...  :icon_biggrin:

Yes, yes, always stirrin' the pot I am. I wasn't gonna say anything unless he actually posted and
things got out of hand, but I don't think we're gonna hear from 'The Artist' anytime soon.  :laughing7:

I was just kidding about the neck. But don't make fun of my cardigan!

That's supposed to be binding? It seems more like framing. Looks like the side sole of a gym shoe if you ask me.
MULLY
to the seller, have your "artist" use a thinner brush next time

I thought about offing him 60 bucks for the neck.. But that IS A LOT of work  :icon_scratch:

I wouldn't want it if he offered to give me 60 bucks to take it. That thing's ruined. Wenge doesn't take finish, and it's a very deep and wide grained wood. So, all the crap he's put on there isn't going to be removed without removing a LOT of wood, which will wreck it even worse than it already is.

I'm afraid this one is going to have to go down in his books as an expensive mistake. I'm not sure it would even make good fireplace wood at this point. Too many chemicals. Maybe as part of an outdoor summer bonfire...

Do you really want to have that thing in your possession? Do you really want to even touch it?

Well, I suppose you could use the neck to practice your fretwork or defretting skills on. You might be able to get enough wood to do something small like a thumbrest on a bass. Also, you could try to cut up what wood you can get and turn it into sawdust to mix with something to form wood filler.
Other than that, yep, it's completely and utterly useless now.

Honestly, I think It would be fun to work on. That's all, and just maybe I can make it usable. I've wasted money on worse things.. So  :icon_biggrin:

Yeah, fun in a "work on lung cancer" sort of way. You can buy a brand-spankin' new Wenge neck with an Ebony board and your choice of new stainless steel frets on the Showcase RFN for $242. Check it out. So, why would you pay $360 for one that's already irretrievably ruined? Even if your intention is to accept the cost and destruction of the thing for educational purposes, a new one makes more sense. If nothing else, at least you'd know your starting point.

I don't think he was suggesting that he'd pay anything remotely near the seller's asking price.

It's probably worth the shipping cost to anyone who knows anything about guitars, unless the finish can be chemically removed from the Wenge somehow.

The EPA hazardous waste paperwork would be a nightmare

The neck doesn't need TLC, it needs an exorcist. I hope he throws it in a very deep hole.
