This guitar Richie Blackmore is playing (1st up) before he destroys it   looks like it has a Warhead headstock.
(I may-be wrong)  :dontknow:
Has no Fender logo ...
But the next one he pulls up is a Fender.

If that's a Warmoth ......... Oh the shame  :sad1:

In this day and age, the abundance of $100 guitars that are actually decent student guitars and certainly playable for one song - it would be a shame to trash anything recognizable. The headstock looks more like a Rogue. The flourish on the tip is too narrow to be a Rondo or GFS.  I still cringe at even that being wasteful, but it probably costs less than a flashpot.

I always thought that is a damn stupid thing to brake a guitar....

You mean "break". But, I agree. Still, you have to keep in mind that it's just showmanship. They got paid a helluva lotta money to put on a show, so people expected to see something happen. It's arena rock. It's kinda like exhibition wrestling. Nothing real about it - it's just Hollywood games - but it looks real. Makes the crowd go nuts, and they recommend to all their friends that they go see it. More tickets sold = more money.

Look at any of the old flash/glam/arena bands like Alice Cooper, Kiss, The Who, David Bowie, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, et al... they all put on a show. You went partly for the music, but more for the experience.

For the price of tickets at a lot of big name shows nowadays, you could buy their entire catalog, and maybe a killer STEREO system (And not just some ipod docking station or Home Theater 5.1). While i have no idea what a flashpot actually costs, the point is still true - it's chump change when put in the context of the costs of doing business. Rigging, Lighting, Pyrotechnics, Roadies..

No kidding. Motley Crue is coming to this area in July, and tickets are as high as $252 each! For Motley Crue? Really? So, if you wanna take you wife/girlfriend to that concert, you're looking at over $500 for tickets, and that's just the start of an evening's cost. Add food, gas, parking, T-shirts, etc., you could be down $700 by the end of the night. Not to take anything away from Motley Crue, but I'm sorry. It ain't happening at even half that price.

My wife and I are constantly in disagreement about that kind of stuff. Cruise? Concert, yada yada. I'm not a killjoy, but I kinda lose interest somewhere between $30 and $60 for a couple hour event. Which doesn't go very far these days.

Blowing huge sums of cash on events... it's all up in smoke. All you have are pictures and memories. Depending on the event, you might not have those either. (Not that I would do that, but some of you guys...:) )But a guitar? Even if I decide after the fact that it was a stupid idea, I can probably get at LEAST half my money back. On occasion they even turn a profit.  And tools... tools are both "durable goods" and "an experience". Win Win.

Yeah, that's me. I want something tangible for my money. Had the same arguments with the ex, too. "Let's go to Las Vegas!" Are you kidding me? Where's my lawyer...

That's an older video, and it seems once the floodgates opened and everyone figured Fenders were easily hotrodded because everything bolted on, there were a lot of fly-by-night parts companies.  Even Ritchie could do a Hendrix and Townsend impression now, and for much cheaper.  So no, I think it not a Warmoth.  Though....knowing what I know about the things people use, his Fenders may not be Fenders.  Ya know, if mine aren't, you think his are?

To the hi-jack, it's called disposeable income for a reason.  Whether it's a concert, eating out, vacations, jewelry, etc., it's all something one would do another never would.  I'm done buying anything for transportation that's above a base model now.  You just never get that money back, and who cares if it's hubcaps for 14" wheels or rims for 22s.  It's a car, and I don't need to drive something flashy to flaunt my beautiful peacock feathers to the peahens.  It seems everyone in the U.S. now is within driving distance of a casino.  Dropping $200 to $400 for 3 hours of fun for 2 people once a year, and drinks (indirectly) for free?  Sure.

This footage probably goes back to the 1980s.... Warmoth wasn't doing the Warhead headstock back then.

Blackmore used a (presumably) cheap Strat copy to bash up then came back to get a stage Strat to play. It's all just one big shooow (said in an Ed Sullivan styled voice  :icon_thumright: )

I understood why Hendrix sacrificed his stage Strat for Monterey in 1967 (voodoo child, spirituality and all that). I understood why Townshend demolished his guitars during shows (sheer energy and need to complete the desolation).... Ritchie is just being a mimic.

What you need in those sort of acts is a GOOD roadie. I think it was Townshend who moaned about the fact his roadie got it wrong one night & he smashed a fav guitar into splinters...

I see nothing wrong with abusing your guitars during a show if the atmosphere is right, but intentionally smashing them to bits...

Did you forget to take your chill pills? Crazy sh!t.

The way i look at it, on your deathbed, you'll be measuring your life's "net worth" in memories.

I'm VERY cool with pictures and memories. Beats asking yourself "why'd I buy this damned thing in the first place aqain?"

My parents have a garage full of "stuff" that makes no difference in their life.

First time I saw Motley Crue was in early 1983 in Cincinnati, Ohio. I seem to recall paying 12 bucks for my ticket.

Yeah, back when I went to a lotta concerts (late '70s, early '80s), tickets were typically in the $6.50-$12.50 range. And that was for the monster bands of the time like Aerosmith, Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, Alice Cooper, Ted Nugent, Peter Frampton, Rush, Robin Trower and dozens of others I can't think of off the top of my head that I saw. Everybody booked Cobo Hall, which is huge, or Masonic Temple. Now, you'd have to be certifiably insane to go to Cobo for anything even if they were handing out $100 bills to all comers and Masonic doesn't even exist. They're down in the war zone.

Speaking of which, Detroit's within a hair's breadth of going bankrupt. They finally were forced to take on an "emergency manager" rather than let the mayor and city council run things because it's gotten so bad. Apparently, he has 18 months to turn things around, 3 of which are gone already. Not sure what'll happen if he fails, and nobody can see how he can succeed. There are very few businesses left there, and what population is left doesn't pay any taxes. They can't issue bonds or borrow money because their credit rating is so bad they're not even rated any more.

It's too bad. It was once a vibrant city fulla promise.

Ticket prices nowadays are why I'm glad my dad instilled in me the desire to be open to new music as I get older.I find newer bands that will come play here in Tulsa at the small but historic Cain's Ballroom where tickets are usually around $20. A couple of years ago I went there to see Buckethead play a fantastic show for 2 hours, and then as we were leaving we saw all the traffic leaving from the BOK Center where the Eagles had just played. Can't even think of what those tickets cost. Plus I had seen them in the 70's in their prime for a lot less. Another example was when Metallica played the BOK and some friends where going paying $100 apiece. I didn't have a desire to go when I thought of how I'd seen them 3 times on their Ride The Lightning/Master of Puppets/ ...And Justice For All tours for between $10-$27 bucks.

Check out this Zeppelin concert poster for their Earls Court concert with the prices at the bottom...

And, I'll bet Buckethead put on a better show!  :icon_thumright:

I didn't see that Eagles show to compare, but I'd be willing to bet too!
