Guitar Family Portrait. (post em)

That's probably why they had so many law suits against them, the big names were being made to look bad...... :dontknow:

In hindsight, the established companies were protecting their designs and getting a bit muffed they had had some punks come into their turf and do better than them. But if they had managed their QC way before then, this sort of copy may not have been attempted, as the demand for a better quality instrumnet would have been met by the established companies!

But, by challenging the new companies with law suits and effectively stopping that line of instrument, they did not improve their own QC standards and that lead to the rise of the vintage instrument market we know of today.....based upon the customer's assumptions that the older guitars were of better quality than the brand new ones..

From L to R:
Walnut, curly maple, cherry, yellowheart, zebrawood, padouk, wenge.
Except the cherry, all destined for non-guitar projects.

Mmm... Curly:

I've since sold the Ibanez, but ... I bought that in the mid 90's. My dad was always a wheeler and dealer. I swear he would walk into almost any place short of Walmart and ask "is that the best you can do?" and you'd be surprised places you would never expect to bargain would - as long as you're talking to a person who has that authority.

So I decide to try to do what dad does. This Ibanez is hanging up in a woodwind shop. I knew it'd been there for quite some time. I see the price tag, I figure out what I think is the lowest he might possibly go, and ask the guy if he'd take that. The guy sorta hems and haws and says I can't really do that I'll have to ask the owner next door in the repair shop....

The phone is turned up really loud, and I hear the owner say:
"Hell yeah! TAKE IT!!!"

So much for my bargaining skills.

Here's most of them:

Helluva stack. But, you clearly have gaps in the coverage. I see you've got some unassigned necks laying back there just rotting... shouldn't you be putting those on bodies and rounding out the collection a bit? <grin>

Is that the Salmoncaster? Haven't seen that one in ages!

Yes the one furthest to the right is indeed the "Salmoncaster"; for those of you whom missed the thread a few years ago when I did my first dyed finish, it looked like this during an early stage:

I'll post a picture of all the unfinished projects when I get home later, if you think that's bad....

Don't have a picture, but I sold a Guild JF4-N jumbo back in the mid ninety's that I wish I still had. In fact, it's difficult to tell from internet that the guitar ever existed. I love jumbo's, always had a soft spot for Guilds.  I believe it had a venetian cutaway - but I certainly can't find a picture on internet that looks like mine - I only see that cutaway on dreadnoughts, not jumbo's. Something kinda like the cutaway on the dinky toy in the middle of the pic below , but on a jumbo. I sold it in 96 I believe (rent, 2 months before graduation) - must've bought it around 93-94.

Fat Bottom Guilds make the rockin world go round!
(I've actually got a cool video floating in my head for an acoustic version of FBG - with some kid sneaking in to play his dad's off limits guitar (JF-30-12 or heck even a J-200 it's still a nice jumbo with a heavy footprint, even if its the wrong vendor) while the baby sitter yaks on the phone with her boyfriend. Pictures of snazzy looking but super thin bodied acoustics met with a tape measure and disapproval (blue eyed floozies) ...  It could work!

Gonna resurrect this thread, too.

That's a MiM Strat in front. I subbed the stock knobs for black metal knobs because the reverse numbers annoyed me. I believe the body is alder. From left to right in the middle row is my 24.75" scale Hagstrom Swede, my Hagstrom HB-4 30.75" scale bass and my 25.5" scale Super Swede in Vintage Burst. Both Swedes are mahogany set-neck and body guitars but the Super has a flame maple top. The bass body is mahogany, neck is bolt-on maple. Lying on the table are a Goya classical and a Seagull S6+ cedar. In the very back is my seven-piece blue-to-black fade Gretsch Catalina Maple kit, Gibraltar / DW hardware, Sabian AA and AAX cymbals.

Soon to join the family is my Warmoth (black-brown-yellow burst with a tortoise pickguard, alder body, maple / rosewood neck) Jazzmaster and, after that, my Olympic White, with red pearl pickguard, HSS Warmoth Musiclander.

Good to see someone else who likes Hagström! I have a black Swede too, it's being modified next week and I'll post a picture when it's done.
