+1 on PJ Harvey. Not the hot LA blonde type with big hair or any kind of spectacular guitar player, but a great performer with good songs and a spectacular taste in gear. I wouldn't sign her as an endorsee to look pretty in a gear ad, but if you told me I had to hire a female guitar player for a group she'd be my top choice.

Not the best picture of her - she looks a little as though she wasn't planning on being photographed today - but she's still hot.  Maybe not a guitarist's guitarist, but as many here have noted, the dudes (really, it's almost universally dudes) who focus overmuch on technique can clear a room with their bad-ass accuracy and proficiency.  I'll take Susanna.

Wow, a girls 'n' guitars thread where people aren't just posting a bunch of pornstars posing with Guitar Hero controllers. I think this must be a first.

Wendy Melvoin of Prince & The Revolution fame. I think she gets overlooked often, possibly because she was mostly seen in the shadow of Prince's lead playing. Check out her playing post-Prince though (Wendy & Lisa have done a ton of albums), she may not be a million-notes-per-second shrdder but she's phenomenal. Definitely some questionable fashion choices though...

(try and find a photo of her playing guitar where she's not wearing some horrific 80s creation. Damn hard task.)

Leona from Jaggedy Ann/Goldy Rox. Her playing saved me from giving up on guitar, this promo picture is what brought me to Warmoth (though I've still not gotten around to ordering a blue burst SG body; I keep hoping I'll stumble across an actual SG Goddess for sale) and she's a thoroughly cool lady

Kate Voegele. I doubt her guitar playing would particularly impress anyone (she's primarily a singer), but she's got an amazing voice and she's got the best on-stage presence of any singer-songwriter I've seen. She's also got a great guitar collection: a few gorgeous Teles (including a vintage butterscotch Thinline which I'm desperate to replicate), an ES-339 with the best tone I've ever heard from a semi-hollow live, a worn yellow Gibson LP DC (not that special, but I have the exact same guitar so I have to big it up) and an original Gibson Dove, among other acoustics. She wins for her axe collection alone.
