Gibson put together a really nice page on Les Paul.  Check it out  :icon_thumright:

That was a nice read. Les is one of those guys I really wanted to meet someday.
I'm surprised Steve Miller wasn't quoted. If I remember right, Les was his godfather.

I was so surprised to learn that from waht i read, a guy named Ted McCarty actually designed the Gibson "Les Paul", and that Les paul was primaraly an artist endorser who did little more than pick the colors of the guitar? I dont't know. Just what i read.

Since some things can't be told in text, I can't tell if you're sarcastic or not. I believe I posted that yesterday. Not the link or anything, just that he mostly chose the custom's colors.

No sarcasm. I didnt see your post. Its very surprising to me, because from waht i see on all the websites, everyone is going all ape shit over the fact that the creator of the Gibson Guitar, known as the Les Paul, just died, when in fact, judging from this article I posted, he was a mere endorsement figure. Thats what blows my mind.

From what I know, this is a pretty long-standing "controversy" (sorry, hate that word) - Les Paul said one thing, that he brought his Log guitar to Gibson and in the end it was very influential on the LP model, Gibson say the Log had little to do with the final production guitar. That's what I've read.
As with most things, both are probably true: Les' Log probably influenced the LP guitar more than Gibson are willing to acknowledge, but the end product is more its own thing than a Log clone.

Or something! Didn't read the linked articles.

A sad day indeed.

But not all hope is lost, for Les Paul is survived by a brother who will carry the family name & headstock logo...
... his brother's name is Les Peter.
