Looking at the Gecko 5, I'm wondering if you ordered it without mounting holes on the body and neck, if you could glue it in. there seems to be a substantial amount of wood there, it's essentially a set-neck tenon. (I probably wouldn't have the guts to do it myself, but I imagine it would work)

NO NO NO NO NO.

Yes, you could glue it in there, and yes, there's a lot of surface area, but what are you getting for your efforts?

I'll tell you what you're getting:

1.  A less secure joint than bolts will afford you.  Essentially, it's a lap joint, with a three-foot-long lever and five bass strings' worth of tension working against it.

2.  A more difficult-to-repair joint than bolts will afford you.

3.  A bigger problem than necessary just to attach the damn thing in the first place.

4.  No tonal advantage.

5.  No playability advantage.

I'd stick with the bolt-on.  If you want to make it more secure, use threaded inserts.  If you want to make it more attractive, recess the screw holes and use ferrules.  If you want to improve access to higher frets, carve away some lumber on the body.  All of these solutions are easier and more sensible than dealing with a glued-in neck that was intended to be a bolt-on.

He's right. Lap joint with a loooong lever. A friend once described a rocking chair as "A machine that slowly destroys itself". That's what you'd have. Also - unless you keep the screws in, you have no real security in the bending moment. . And if you keep them - why bother? I'd take that a step further and say - unless you radically altering the heel  why bother.
