GAS Alert!!!!

guys...sycamore IS maple! but only from my end of the globe, not yours...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acer_pseudoplatanus

(unless warmoth uses the name sycamore for plane/platanus, or the ficus sycomorus, which is a figtree).

so depending on which sycamore it actually is, it might take stains very, very well. I know that zebrano takes stains great, ash as well, and the 'maple'sycamore takes stains very nice too. that works just like maple.

by the way, gibson uses this kind of maple, not the 'real' hard maple, cause its cheaper than hard maple. just a tiny, little fact many people don't know ;)

The figure on that Explorer body says American sycamore (g. Platanus)  to me, not the European Acer pseudoplatanus.

Most likely the sycamore they are getting is quarter sawn, witch gives it that "digital" look. Witch is also apparent in most quarter sawn maples in the US. I have several maple neck that are quarter sawn with the same 'digital" pattern. Aslo some mahogany's exhibit these same patterns when quater sawn, but none quite as spectacular as that top on that Exp...

First decent one I've seen in 6 months of looking on the showcase. Pity it's already got the bridge rout.

There's an even bigger reason to do TOM bridge routes than there is for Trem bridge routes - the neck pocket changes for the angle.
