I'm not an Explorer fan, either. But, you're right. That's a helluva piece of work.

Speaking of GAS, spectacular pieces, and incredible prices, check this stuff out.

First, we have a brazilian rosewood over mahogany neck with a tobacco burst back and headstock. Already fretted with 6105s, black binding and fitted with a GraphTech Black TUSQ XL nut. This thing's ready to ship Monday morning at the incredible price of $295. To do this on purpose would run you $578...

You could bolt it to this little lovely...

Normally $805, on special for $595 (very slight blem). Add some gold hardware, some wicked pickups, and play some badass polkas at your next wedding gig.

That body is just stunning, but the neck is....meh

I thought just the opposite. Not that the body isn't fantastic, because it is, but I'd buy that neck just to stash it for future use. The only thing I'd change if I could is the frets, but the ones on there aren't bad at all. They're just not stainless, and once you go stainless you never want to go back. Still, at that price, I'd live with the nickel/steel until they wore out.

Good point. And I hate locking nuts.

Oh, well. It's the neck that I lust after. There'll be other bodies that don't need mechanically complex Eiffel Tower wang bars.

The neck is featured in the Showcase here, if you want to see all the details. But, to answer your question directly, the neck meat is called "Bocote". Warmoth has this to say about it:

Often referred to as Mexican Rosewood, striking grain patterns are the trademark of this dense, smooth wood. The grain is very tight so the feel is extremely fast and luxurious. Because of Bocote’s dense nature, you can expect great sustain and nice attack. Along with the usually wild figure of light and dark brown stripes, light yellow and light green hues are not uncommon and add to the uniqueness of this fine exotic. Limited availability.

and you can see/read more about it here.

That's gorgeous! I didn't know ziricote came in widths that could be used for body veneers. It's especially pretty over the mahogany...

I really do love ziricote! I am torn between a collection of flattops. ziricote top, cocobolo top, pau ferro top... or some carved tops, koa, nice flamed maple, padouk, walnut...I just like those carved tops ;) :p

Good lord... that ziricote top looks like chocolate sauce over ice cream. I just got a serious case of munchies! :tard:
