Gary Moore has died

In the Red House Clip, notice the size of the hall
Do you think many besides him could fill that?

one thing that always excited me about a GM disc was the way he could  put out a blues release and next a fusion, or mix them and they always sold,

Like I said earlier, one of my biggest influences, Sad day

Black Rose is one of my favorite albums ever (hence: http://www.unofficialwarmoth.com/index.php?topic=9329.0) and probably one of the best rock albums from the seventies!

It's one of those huuuuge Fender anniversary gig so there would have been many greats on the lineup including Gary.

What is interesting however, is that they still wanted Gary to play despite him being known as a Les Paul guy. That's gotta say something too.  :icon_biggrin:

A sad loss of one of my guitar heroes. Shapes of Things is a brilliant brilliant album.
And he did play a Fender - check the first vid.

Murder in the Skies -

(playing a Strat)

Victims of the Future -

(LP Junior with P90s)

Hold on to Love -

(LPJ again)

Kirk Hammett played Murder in the Skies to his engineer. "I want my guitar to sound like that."
Engineer says; "but it's so loud it even drowns out the drums."
KH reply; "That's what I want."
LOL
Also check out 'Live at Monsters of Rock' CD from 2003. It has a segue of two versions of 'Don't Belive a Word' (one up tempo and one slow ballad)

Amen Jack!!!!!!!! I have always felt that is one of the most powerful guitar solos of all time.

the fact that this comes from a "maiden" fan freaks me out  :-\ it is obvious that iron maiden was heavily influenced by Thin Lizzy.. I even think they did a couple of covers!!

Gary Moore was never quite as big in the US as he was in Europe - especially as regards his pre "still got the blues" days... explains why a fair few people haven't heard of him stateside.

This is definitely one of my favourites:

One of the first "shred" solos I spent time trying to learn.  I especially enjoy the parade of guitars (synthaxe wtf?).  It seems they are in on the joke though.  It was the 80s after all...

Great duet with Ozzy, poking fun at the led zeppelin clones at the time...

on of my favorites.. his tribute to Phil Lynott

was this a hit in the US?? see cozy powell on drums .. also RIP :(

This is a re-post from the UW "Off-topic" board that I posted last night:

While I never really had much of a chance to divulge into Gary's music, I am saddened at the loss of a great guitarist. I stumbled upon this a while ago, and felt that it may cheer people up a little bit...

So is this Gary Moore with Phil Lynnot? I took these photos in about 1978 in Seattle. Thin Lizzy opened for Styx.

The best example of how Gary Moore could sing and play. I agree with Tonar, the solo is one of my favorites too.

Also, if you want to know how a Soldano SLO sounds, there it is.

No Gary Moore thread would be complete without Walking By Myself. The version on the Blues Alive CD has the most killer intro solo that I've ever heard. It may not be the most technically difficult thing in the world, but something doesn't have to be technically difficult to be mind blowing.

Just remembered, my band did a cover of this back in November. Rag on me if you like, I'm the singer, I know I suck.

This is pretty cool. Marshall has re-released this today.
