I have a great Non- Warmoth Swampy Ash Tele body, with a translucent finish.Problem is that it has a weird grain pattern whereby the grain converges at the- whats the term for it-, middle end at the strap button, and frankly, it bugs the frook outta me.

How about ya'll?

I guess some things just stick in your craw and cause outsized aggravation.

That said, I have an old Warmoth VIP from when they pretty exactly copied the PRS-style body. Thing had some aggravating grain patterns. And that on a curly Maple top over a Mahogany carcass. I tried to make it look good, but it just didn't like me. So, I finally said to hell with it and shot it with a solid color. Whaddaya gonna do? Thing was fugly  :laughing7:

I pretty much will never order a transparent or dye finish from Warmoth 'cause they always seem to either pick out plain ugly wood for me, or even when I've chosen a specific top, they've aligned it in a way I hate. Then there was the time I wanted the plainest of plain maple necks and they sent one with 'bonus' flame (nice at other times, but not what I wanted) and birdseye (f***-ugly always).

So, yeah. These days I either build with a solid finish in mind no matter what, or I anticipate re-veneering. Many people are happy with Warmoth's taste in wood selection and alignment, but evidently my taste and their taste clashes, and every now and then some really grotty pieces do come through. I used to be surprised when a big knot would show up in the Showcase under a transparent finish, but not anymore.

Some guitars just require an ugly grain pattern.

For your consideration, may I present:

a guitar so ugly it's beautiful.  BTW - anyone have one they are willing to part with cheap?  Been looking for one...

I have always had nice selections from Warmoth.  The flame maple LPS was a non choice top
