Out of curiosity, did you oil or condition the fretboard?

Generally speaking, oiling and/or conditioning fretboards is a way for opportunists to make money off the fears of players that their babies will deteriorate or lose viability without the attention of their products. They all have some magic solution for $X.XX that will grant eternal life unto your beloved fretboard. Fact is, those various oils and nostrums are rarely good for the wood and will often soften it, causing it to wear more quickly and making fret replacement more difficult or even impossible.

What causes neck/fretboard problems like cracks, shrinkage, discoloration and breakage is 95% dehydration and 5% misadventure. Problems are very rarely caused by loss of oil, it's loss of water. You're much better off putting a humidifier in your case and paying attention to its condition, or making sure the environment the instrument spends most of its time in is proper. If the wood needs any oil, it'll get a lot more than it needs just from your fingers. But, that won't stop it from cracking. Only an environment that keeps it from drying out completely will do that.
