Floyds on Strats

thanks  - well I was just messing around and I realized that to play the solo in Whole Lotta Love you need to do a couple 2 whole step bends - or close to it (it's blues rock so it just has to be close hehehe). In the stuff I recorded I haven't done any bends like that. By limited repertoire I mean that I don't know any songs. If I had to jam with a band right now there wouldn't be very much for us to play

anyway - i like a floating bridge even though most people seem to not like them. Even EVH has his bridge set up so it's dive only. I might try that if and when I get a floyd, but I think that's like a whole other technique to play like with it like that. I like being able to do a vibrato that is a little bit up and down - which is what i do with my strat.

You can vibrato up and down, just not to the extremes on the upside...

hmmm I figured if you have the bridge flush against the body you're not going to get any upward movement at all. But I guess you'd get a tiny bit. I don't think it would be enough for my liking though. I'll have to try it sometime.

No pulling up? That's crazy talk. I need to be able to whip out some "Dime-squeels" from time to time. :headbang1:

I prefer a recessed Floyd Rose, but non-floating.  I think that "pulling up" is passe', unless you're Vai or Satriani.  To each his own though.

You're not going to lose the "Strat sound" with a Floyd. It will simply be a brighter tone (less low-end) than a standard Strat bridge. Almost like the tone an ash body produces...

why is it passe for everyone except vai and satriani? they're the only ones that can do it? and why is my text bold hahaha ;)

It's just my opinion. it's more of a noise-maker than musical, and I personally have no use for it.

I happen to LIKE bold text, and if you don't, too bad. It is NOT the same as typing in all caps, so don't even go there...

look at me! my text is italicized!  making noise is why I started playing guitar in the first place. I love weird sounds. no reason why it's not good in music. guitar solos are also passe but I still love them anyway.

Ah yes, Whole Lotta Love...definitely at least one double step bend there.

I can do bold and italic, too...even at the same time... :toothy12:

It doesn't actually sit flush on the body. There's about a 1/4" gap between the body and the saddle springs...

Guitar solos are passe' only for people who can't play them.

If you're gonna be a dick for my stating my personal preference, then f#ck you. And my choice of text is none of your business or concern...

Spend a lot of time at sites with flame wars?  This site is not one of those.

I came here to talk about guitars. Not to be insulted by little dickheads about my preferences,  and my choice of text. It's amazing that some people have  nothing better to do than complain about something so trivial. They  obviously have no life. Perhaps one day, they will move out of their parents' basement and join the human race...

I didn't start any "flame war". Take a look at who started throwing stones...

Then don't read my posts. I wouldn't want you to get "tired"...
