Flat wounds on my Jazzmaster: How have I missed this?!?

I have two Precision-a-like basses, one set up on roundwounds and one on flatwounds.
I always say roundwounds make them sound like a piano, whereas flatwounds make them sound more like a double bass.
The other big difference is that for the same gauge, the flatwounds are lot 'stiffer'.
If you want that 60s bass sound - think 'Je T'aime' bassline - flatwounds with a string mute and plectrum nails it.
