Flat spot around jack on tele

Hi all,

I've noticed that a lot of telecasters have a sort of flat spot around the input jack. My warmoth tele does not. It doesn't really bother me, but I was just curious, I'd like to know more about them and why they're there...or why they aren't.

If I had to guess, it would be because most tele's have a flat input jack plate, and the edge of the guitar needs to be straight in order for the jack plate to fit the body properly.
If you have an electrosocket, or similar, then the flattening of the edge isn't necessary.
