Been applying Rustins plastic coating the last couple of days, I'm onto coat number 6. After coat 4 i flat sanded the hole thing with 400 grit sandpaper. First time using this, so far so good.
Update! I've commissioned a local guitar builder, Alpher Instruments to make me Pau Ferro neck with a Pau Ferro fingerboard!
I've been able to select all the wood used in it. Full spec to follow soon! The first picture is the wood that will be used for my neck and the rest are what it will kind of look like.
Its been a while and the neck I got made has arrived....and oh my its such a beauty. Here it is;
And in other news, when I applied the Rustins Plastic coating it seemed to react with the dye a little and made my burst...well not really a burst any more, so I did this....
I'm going to be starting again, but trying a different finish this time. Might keep it natural, or washed black dyed finish. or maybe something like the one attached. Any thoughts?
That neck is amazing! Would it be cheeky to ask how much it cost you? I'm looking for a UK based builder to make me a neck or two for build I'm working on.
My mum taught me never to ask those questions! Haha
I think it was about £360, but I think that was with Hipshot tuners as well. The quality is amazing and it's been totally made by hand. They're easy to find on Facebook.
Thanks for that, that seems very reasonable for a hand made neck. I was in touch earlier in the year with Soulmate guitars, but I'd have the same import charge costs I would with Warmoth parts. It's good to have such a strong recommendation for a UK based builder.
I finally bit the bullet and went for a sanded back black dye finish on my jazz. I will be leaving the back natural and applying true oil over the hold body. What do you think?
A little update. I got an East Mid sweep preamp and thats been fitted with a little head scratching and a few emails to John East who drew me up a diagram so I can use it with my Vol/Bal/Tone setup. Top marks for customer service, he was so helpful and extremely helpful!
And now its pretty much complete, and the it sound awesome and feels so smooth to play. I'll be taking some better photos, but here are a couple of phone pics.
