Flake finish question

I have a tele body finished (top coat rubbed out to gloss).  But I am a bit unhappy with the amount of flake.  I bought a premixed flake and the flakes are pretty small and not popping as much as I would like (almost more of a pearl look).

Is it possible to buy some flakes, mix in topcoat and apply over my topcoats of clear?  Would I need to sand it back with a sandpaper grade first?  or is it just not something that one can do?
