First set of nut slotting files

...I typically buy from LMII, and am trying to decide on the nut files http://www.lmii.com/products/tools-services/fretting/nut-saddle-files

They will be for my own use, and I use 9-42 gauge strings on my electrics. Is the set of 3 double sided files sufficient? (smallest file is .016...too big for my high E?)

Do I need to look at anything else? The set of 5 doesn't seem any better - the set of 8 has plenty but starts getting pricey.

TubesAndMore has a set that looks like a better fit, but are backordered.

Better to part out the exact ones I need at StewMac? Please recommend the set i should use

I'd say a 16 is too big for a 9 high E. A 10 file would be better for that.

I got mine from Stew Mac and just selected the sizes most useful for my needs. There's no point buying a set from anywhere if they aren't suitable.

Actually, Warmoth sells what appears to be a nice set, but I haven't used theirs so I can't say how good they are. The files I have are made by Hiroshima Files. Very nice stuff. The link takes you to Japarts, but I'm sure you can find them other places as well.

I can vouch.  I'm borrowing Wylie's set of nut files and the quarter round crowning file for a job right now.  Good quality stuff, and it's nice to have the exact gauge file for the exact gauge string.

There's a company on ebay that sells the same brand files, and will make you a set of any sizes you need.

+1 on Japarts.  They have great stuff.  I got all my hardware for my latest telecaster from there.  OOPS!  Just gave it away....
