First post by new member subject to Moderator approval.

It was pushing the envelope of child porn. I saw it and sent a complaint to the admins here. I agree that first posts should have to be approved. Hell, give me moderator status, I'll take care of that end of it for them.

why wasn't his account deleted?
this time I am not even going in to report it, like yesterday.

Yea, I reported him yesterday as well.
Maybe if we just ignore his crap he will go away...

Sorry guys.  In principle, I am not opposed to finding another person to help with the board.  My preference would be someone on the other side of the pond in a much different timezone.  That would give us the best 24hr coverage.

Again I feel the urge to post this article from cracked.com.  It's very interesting and it definitely made me think about the problems that we have occasionally had here and on other forums I belong to.  You guys should check it out.  Oh btw, it's from cracked.com, so there is swearing, just to warn anyone who is offended by swearing.

Is there a way that the authorities could be contacted about any possibly illegal post made by a pronbot?

I mean the stuff I saw last night - or the night before - my time, that =CB= commented about (he prob. reported it too) & I reported, to Mods should really be investigated. I found it sick. If this forum's server is based in the USA surely there's someone in the FBI that can be contacted? We are a respectable fourm here after all. If it's some idiot who thinks that sending foums sick stuff is funny, maybe the FBI breaking down their door and confiscating their PC would be funny to them too.

That would be sweeeet...  :laughing7: :laughing11: :laughing7:

Folks....  Having been there, done that, with running a major BBS on the net... here's how it goes, or went for me.

All of this BBS software logs the IP addy of the person, and also give reports based on the members, or the IP addresses or whatever.

First time out - you ban the user, you flag the IP.
Second time - you ban the IP
Third time - you ban the whole subnet - for instance 123.123.123.*** where the *'s are any number.  Usually, you dont need to keep that whole subnet banned forever.  Some you do.  When you do a lookup on it, and find it comes from Italy, or China, or Russia, or Greece, or some other country not usually associated with users on your board, then you have to get very wary, and just leave it in place for a while, or forever.  Italy is really bad for this sort of thing, I dunno why.  You hardly ever see it from the UK, from Oz, from Germany, Canada, Japan, etc.

And thats how its done.  Case by case.

Great. So somebody using the same ISP I do pulls this kind of crap, I get blocked as well? These guys are not morons, they come in over open proxies, riding piggyback on somebody elses IP range. During the episode I told about earlier each and every IP address they used was in a different C-class range. Go that way and you end up blocking *.*.*.* in the end.

I saw it come by over the RSS feed, and I didn't see any porn. There was a lot of suggestive imagery and some text hinting that you would find the real thing on some website, but I doubt you can put someone behind bars based on the conclusion your mind jumped to. Don't get me wrong, I think this stuff is disgusting to the n-th degree, but that is a different thing than the legal aspects.Besides, it could be a police run sting operation.

Yes, its within the range of possibilities to inadvertently ban wanted users.  In practice, I never once saw it to be the case.  Why?  Because I checked the IP's coming in from good users, checked the IPs from bad users, and we simply did not have any in the same ranges.  As I said - Italy.. big big problem.  China - massive problem  Netherlands too for that matter has its fair share.  Greece.  Turkey, Russia.

Let me tell you about China.  Right here on my network, I reject probably 2000 to 5000 request from China daily.  If they were individual...I'd probably not have noticed.  But what they do is a complete and thorough port scan, searching for openings.  I do run an FTP server and HTTP server here.  Both are set up in ways to reject crawlers and such, but the Chinese... they just keep pounding, and pounding and pounding, to the point that it will take my T1 line and bring it to a crawl at times.  But, the Chinese are not the worst for the porno.  That goes to the Italians.

Unless threats are made, or the postings are containing verifiable kiddie porn, the authorities have no interest and better things to do with their time.

Yes, you are probably right. The models weren't naked they were clothed, but the posing was suggestive, and to me, there's something horribly wrong when a kid - and I mean a pre pubescent girl or boy here - poses in a typical adult reclining semi suggestive model pose. Yes it does suggest something that is illegal. And yes, it could be a sting by some agency, or it could be a bait for those interested in this stuff to see if there's some on this forum. Understand the legal aspects of what constitutes p*rn and now aware after you mentioned it here that it possibly isn't illegal in that context, but it is offensive to bring that sort of suggestive material to this forum.

I'm not going to argue any more about what porn is, but if a mother getting pictures of her kids playing around naked have been considered child pr0n, maybe whatever you guys are talking about can be also considered the same.

=CB= thanx for the IT side of the issue, appreciated. I think there's an International Treaty or the like that resolves to stop this sort of modelling happening but maybe some countries haven''t signed it or haven't enacted laws to eniorce the Treaty there? :dontknow:

In China's case,  I guess it's possibly the anarchy that can happen sometimes when a mega huge bureaucracy tries to control everything and is spread a little too thin doing that, and the end result is some businesses can corruptly be avoided and do what they want to do. :icon_scratch:

Max, photos of feet can be pronography! Ever heard of foot fetish?

No, mate, these photos were just suggestive as Byte Frenzy mentioned. It did imply, I think a link to some more - possibily p*rn.  Parents taking photos of their kids have a hard time in Australia at sporting events, school musicals and the like, because of these creeps that get their jollies from such photos & the lengths that organisations have to go to, to ensure that kids' photos don't end up on some kiddie p**n site.  My mates' daughter's football team (u16 girls) had to have an 'official' photographer just to ensure they could get pix of their kids playing and not have the police called in if photos were taken. The team's manager had to go to the Football Association and get media accreditation from them, for the photographer for goodness sake.

Didn't see this, thankfully. But I think W ought to offer moderator status to a few regulars in different time zones to at least nip this in the bud and ban individual users. If it gets worse, maybe more drastic measures should be taken but volunteer moderators would be a helpful start and I can't see any reasons against it. DBW offered already, and I would second his nomination if he really wants to.

Who are the regular Asian/OZ and European posters that might want to volunteer?
