what i do instead of the screwdriver method is just use my cell phone. I play a ringtone on it and hold it to the pickup. If the ringtone comes out of the map then i've got it wired correctly.

I went to wire the thing up tonight.. and ran into more fun.

So apparently, its four wires + a grounded shield. I'd missed the yellow wire as it had ended an inch up inside the shielding instead of poking out the end.

Using alligator clips I've tried R+B and W+Y, R+W and Y+B, W+B and R+Y, on the hot and twisted together for each. No matter which combo of wires I've tried, the thing hums like mad as soon as I get a cable plugged in.

I've got the outer shielding stuff twisted up and on the ground lug and the ground wire from the bridge is coming in at 0ohms so that line is good.

On this drawing, the black wire would be the twisted shielding from inside.. Coax, right? That stuff is the ground?

photo please! even a bad one

All I have is a camera phone, every time I try to take a picture of something this small it comes out a smudge. You can't even see the wires coming out of the black shielding. Plus I'm already in trouble as I was doing this at 5AM having been up all night trying to finish the damned thing, and I used the wrong notch on my wire strippers and lost a lot more of the cable than I was intending to. I'm now working with about an inch and a half sticking out the jack hole.

With blue grounded, red and white twisted together and yellow to the hot, I have no hum at all from the amp. Awesome! I'll have this thing strung up tonight!
