Hello and greetings fellow Warmoth builders!

Having spent a few years messing around with Korean Squiers, messing up soldering jobs, ruining bodies with bad paint jobs and watching countless Youtube vids etc..  :-\ I have Just spent my first $1000+ dollars on a custom build! I've decided to go for a Dave Murray inspired theme, with a few twists. Yes I know this has all been done before, black body, maple necked axe with the 2 Dimarzios and 1 Fender 57/62 HSH thing, etc but I hope this will be slightly different.
I am informed it will all take 8 weeks to reach me here in Scotland since there is painting and nitro to do on the neck.
I am also informed of a hefty HM Customs import tax bill.... :headbang1:

Here are the specs:
Body - Solid Alder Stratocaster shape, gloss black, HSH routing, contoured heel

Neck - Quartersawn maple, Black Ebony fretboard,(unique choice) 22 frets, gold jumbo frets, scalloped from 12th fret to 22nd fret. No inlay markers. Tusq nut, white. Nitro satin finish.

Pickups/Electronics - Dave Murray signature pre-wired pickguard, HSH cream Dimarzio 36th PAF/ Fender custom/ Dimarzio super distortion on 3 way switch. No mods to keep it original.
Pickguard will be changed to black/white/black with gold screws. 8 hole vintage.

Hardware - Gold vintage tremolo, gold Schaller straplocks, gold pickup rings on pickguard. Gold/black tuxedo Sperzel TrimLok tuners.

So there it is, Dave but not Dave at the same time. Always loved Maiden, but wanted something a bit different in the overall finished guitar. There will be no Fender logo or anything else added, its a tribute guitar not a rip off after all!
So there it is, what are your opinions?

Welcome to the forum... I think you'll enjoy the guitar.

What are the differences between your tribute and DMs ?

I obviously know that DM, has a modded black strat but I am not familiar with the details. So just interested where it differs etc and the choices.

HMRC is straightforward you just pay the carrier. The £ is stronger against the $ than it has been for a while so it's a better deal for UK folks at the moment...

YES! As soon as I saw this thread, I knew ORCRiST's Aces High Strat was gonna come up! (-Not to take away from the build at hand.)

-Lookin' forward to seeing this one come together; not usually a fan of gold hardware, but it could be pretty slick with the other appointments.

...I had Murray in mind when I did a Strat with Hot Rails in all three holes (-all bridge models at that) back in the mid-nineties. The build went outa control when I added the metal pickguard and a wenge/ebony baritone neck to the chambered ash/quilted maple body. -Insane.

Your nod to DM sounds a lot more sensible!  :icon_thumright:

Thanks for the replies folks, that Aces High axe is amazing. I take my hat off to the builder of that beautiful guitar!

Bit of a wait for my parts to arrive and I really Need to stop looking at the Warmoth showcase, far too much eye candy! I can see now just how infectious this guitar building lark is!

I toyed with the idea of buying a Mex or Am- Strat and shoving the Murray configuration pups on it. But then I think it becomes impersonal. I've no intention of re-selling after I build this. And I think it will be one of many builds to come  :headbang:

Hope the wife isn't reading this  :toothy10:
