Hi Guys! I'm a new builder and long time modder on my instruments (guitar, bass and mandolin) I have planned and bought 'most' of the parts for a vintage white alder strat, maple/maple neck, vintage tremolo, electronics, etc. Haven't gotten the pickups yet, I'm hinting to the wife that she should do that for me for christmas. Fender Custom shop texas specials, I liked the sound of the SRV strat, but didn't like the neck feel or fret size (jumbos and that neck shape just doesn't feel 'natural' to me). My questions are fairly simple.

1, How good is the fit between warmoth necks and bodies?

2, how would I correct 'neck wobble' or drift if the neck pocket doesn't fit well?

that's about all that's worrying me at the moment, Thanks in advance for your help!

first off welcome to the board
and question number one necks and bodies 99% of the time fit perfectly, my 80's style strat did
and question number 2 im quite confident you wont have that problem, the pocket would be too tight if anything was wrong.
by the way your going to love that guitar warmoth guitar are of great quality, I know im in love with mine

The only complaints on that subject have been from people who thought the fit was too tight. I can't remember anyone complaining of the neck to body fit being too loose. If this really is all that's worrying you, you're all set to be one happy cloudhurler.

hi, and Welcome to the board.

In my warmoth builds, I've always had perfect fit in the neck pocket - no shimming of any kind required.

Also, I recently put a 12 year old warmoth Jazz Bass neck on a new warmoth thunderbird body.  Even though there was 12 years spanning the creation of these two pieces, they still fit together perfectly.

You won't have a problem.  Enjoy!

I've made about 20 Warmoth guitars.
In every case the neck pocket had to be (very carefully) opened out, to allow for the thickness of the finish on the neck.

The good news is that if you do this correctly, the fit will be perfect, with no movement  :headbang:

I've made 7 Warmoths.
3 of them fit so tightly that you had to put a bit of pressure to get the neck in place, and you could pick it up by the neck with no bolts at all. 3 of them fit perfectly snugly, but not quite that tight. 1 of them was perfectly aligned and tighter than the fenders I've messed with but you could still slide the neck in and out easily. All of them were raw necks or with a very thin nitro, so paint thickness wasn't an issue.
in other words, a complete non-issue.

Thanks for the warm welcome!

I made a judgement call on my strat body, I am going to put single coils in it right now, but I wanted the option to change to humbuckers later. So I had it H - S - H routed instead of S - S - S figuring that since the pickups mount to the pickguard anyways I would be able to change them out later. Might have been a stupid move on my part, but it is my first and if there's a time to make silly mistakes, this is it!

Welcome to the board!  I had the same experience with the W neck to body fit, it was 99.9% dead on.  I did need to sand just a sliver of finish off the neck pocket for the fit I was after. And by sliver, I mean 10 or so passes with sandpaper total.

No crime in HSH routing, its hidden under the pickguard and gives you more options later.  It's not like you're trying to fool anyone, it's your axe!

H-S-H was a great choice man thats what i have in mine, even though its only H-X-H right now, room for future change if desired
