*FINISHED!* Dave Murray 'Aces High' Signature Strat

The font is the same lettering as 'Iron Maiden' is.

Ah, yes. I looked it up to refresh my memory. Yeah. Looks terrible for them, too <grin>

i like the vickers with the spitfire in the middle... but i think that should go on the back of the headstock. it would be like a faux-fender custom shop logo that they put on the back of their headstocks :icon_biggrin: could be really cool!

Ah, but there are other things going on the back! Besides, being on the front, I'm hoping to give the headstock a bit of color and it ties the theme to the body at the same time.

A smoke/transparent pickguard.  With that much "art" going on, it's a shame it wasn't rear routed.

I thought about that before I ordered anything from W - but if it was rear-routed it really wouldn't be a Dave Murray strat...let alone a 'normal' strat.

Otherwise, that's a great design. If you don't have a source for that kind of metal impressioning yet, I've had good luck with Wholesale Signs.

Yeah, I looked at them as well - but it appears they don't do black neckplates, so I think I'm going to go with FSR since they do, so we'll see. 'Wholesale' does look like they do some damn nice work though.

As I wait for the body to dry, I firgure I better start working on some of 'finishing touches' which involve some more artwork on my part.
Then, just like the paint - I have to hand it off to another person to produce the final product.

Up on deck today? The neckplate and a headstock decal. What do you guys think?

The headstock decal will be 1" in diameter and will go on the round 'circle' tip of the strat headstock. I'm still working on the colors,
but the circle containing the letters will be the same dark green as the body, as will the big 'V' in the center. The 'S', the words and the
Spitfire I'd like to get in a darkish chrome like the dark chrome Warmoth decal out there. Despite hours of searching the 'Net, this is
closest approximation of what I could find in regards to an 'official' Supermarine company logo or coat-of-arms.

The neckplate will be a impact-printed or diamond-etched one, in black. I tried to get Doug in on the action, but no dice there due to
technical reasons. The image will obviously be scaled down to neck-plate sizes at the time of manufacture. The serial number K5054
belonged to the very first Supermarine Spitfire prototype.

I'm also debating on whether to go with a black pearl or solid gloss black pickguard. Thoughts?

Looks cool, ya wish I'd had the "Aces High" already worked out to do on a plate for ya. But yours you got there looks pretty sweet... :icon_thumright:

Apparently all I needed to do was order a fighter jet bass and I'd have actually received my stuff back.

It looks great, ORC, but I can't help but wonder what made your order different.

I read he does interesting ones at higher priority.

Kind of what I was thinking, but it doesn't make it right.

Agreed on all counts. I honestly don't know why either.  :dontknow: Believe me, I consider myself lucky (and normally, I have SHIT for luck).

Maybe at the end of your guitar's finishing, once it's shipped, you should mention a friend of yours, named Ian, who is wondering about his bass...

Ian and I have exchanged PMs for awhile and I have all the info. Not to worry, I mean to do just that. I have to add: Patrick been great to work with
and honestly seems like he's committed to a first-class product. He's admitted and explained some of the stuff to me you've all read about in the past
(not Ian specifically, more about stuff from the JEM forums). I don't know what weight it will carry if any, but I'll talk to him about Ian and see if I can help
get the ball rolling for him.

Well, I got the finished product over the long weekend and I'm happy with it. The back of the guitar is gloss black, so I
had to go with a black neckplate. The image loses a little bit of 'oomph', but still looks badass at the right angle. Needless
to say, photographing it is a biotch - wierd angles to negate the reflections for a clearer image was the best I could do. As
with most things on the forums, it looks MUCH cooler in person. :)

Still wish I could have gotten Doug in on the design, I think a laser/diamond/impact-etched background picture with actual machined
or engraved lettering would have been cool, and then I would have painted the machined letters with the same green to tie it to the front,
and it would have 'popped' a lot more. Ces't la vie. Special thanks to William at the FSR Custom shop, a lot of emails were exchanged
to deliver the final product, was made and shipped fast - especially over the holiday weekend.  :icon_thumright:

niiice! now THAT is badass. cool plate. and you can probably go the dangerous neckplate route later on if you decide you want one. would be easy to switch during a string change or something

Nice job. I'm curious to know what he charges for his service. Also, somebody needs to have a talk with William about his website. Leaves a lot to be desired, considering he's capable of that kind of work. He's probably not getting nearly as much business as he could be.

$37.00 flat w/ shipping for me.

I hear you about the website, but lets be honest - not all peeps are computer savvy, nor have the money to pay someone else to make it look like they do. ;)

That's a fair price. I'm gonna have to find a decent picture that means something to me. Maybe something like this...
