Finish on Mahogany

ok, i'm making a new guitar, and the body is mahogany. I would really like to paint it either amber/tobacco burst or just plain white.
the grain is quite good looking on it, but its a darker shade of mahogany and i'm not sure how well it will take the amber color.

any advice?
i can post pictures of the wood if needed.

Partially because CB said it,

Mostly because some mahogany tobacco bursts are incredible. Especially if there's nice grain.
